tsar4 Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 I always thought "Howdy" sounded more personable, so I've used it since my teens. Everyone else around me has always said "Hello" or "Hey". 1
resurrected Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 I say it sometimes, but mostly hey, or what the fuck do you want.
new_disease Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 I don't think it's acceptable anywhere here on the west coast. Maybe Oregon, idk I'm not from there but I get the feeling it flies over there
jezebelthenun Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 Howdy is 100% only okay to use ironically 1 1

Ginguy Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 Some people use it around here. Chances are if they are driving a dually you'll be greeted with howdy. I tend to use hi, or what up. Sometimes good morning/afternoon, but that depends on how many zeroes are involved.

bnmjy Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Nah, local slang is "hey yinz." Fucking hate that word, to be honest.

Chapinator_X Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 “Hey, asshole,” is more commonplace where I’m at than “Howdy.” 1

Doom Metal Alchemist Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Not many here every say it, but when they do it doesn't throw me off. It's always an older person, though.
Sieg67 Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 (edited) I don't say it all the time but I have started saying it and I've noticed that a few other people say it around here. Edited July 29, 2020 by Sieg67
JehutyNinja Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Maybe in some parts of the state, but generally you don't greet people you don't know here
SwimModSponges Posted July 29, 2020 Author Posted July 29, 2020 What about folks at work? "Howdy Dave! Hey how was the fishing this weekend?"

Sieg67 Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Yeah perch was super easy. There was a little rocky hole in the lake we use to go to that had tons of perch and crayfish. Didn't even need a pole. A length of fishing line, a hook and a small bit of worm worked just fine.

Codename: Jackass Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 It's acceptable but not common in people under 40. I say it to old people a lot.
wacky1980 Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 i'll only say it to a person who looks like they need to hear it. which, around here...is more often than i like to admit.
