I don't know how you're supposed to start a thread like this. I keep hoping that it's some horrific dream that I'll wake up from. Yesterday we learned that @EmpressAngel had suddenly passed away on Tuesday. To say that I'm gutted doesn't even begin to describe it.

There's a group of us who got to know each other in the Action folder on the ASMB, and some 20 years ago we started getting together in AIM group chats, at first to watch and discuss shows together but eventually to just hang out and talk every night. Angel was part of it from the beginning. Our group survived the end of AIM and moved to Discord, and hardly a day went by when I didn't talk to her about something or other. She'd send me the most godawful trash anime DVDs she could find every birthday and Christmas, along with delicious homemade cookies as an apology. We just watched one of them together this past weekend. Nothing about this feels real.

I think Cille put it best: she should be here, but now she's not.

It just feels so monumentally unfair. It’s like all the air was sucked out of the room. I actually thought for a minute maybe it was some petty joke but that would be too cruel. I’m gonna miss her so much.

This is the kind of news I dread seeing.  I've seen her posts for years, but I can't say I know her.  To me, all of you are ageless and eternal, and things like this can be absolutely shattering.

RIP @EmpressAngel

I’m not on here often, but I did frequent the old ASMB way back when and interacted with her quite a bit there, as well as on the new Discord.  To say I was shocked to hear about this would be an understatement.  I really don’t know what else to say.  This just really sucks.

What?  She passed?  I…I don’t even know what to say.  She was always posting here, joking around with the rest of us, not afraid to tell anyone off.

I don’t know what to say really.  RIP.

Always thought the Trunks thread was really fucking cool as an outsider. I and most people would just give up on a hobby after awhile. But for someone to keep at it for well over ten years... I’m sure you could even read her last posts to know how happy it made her. I always liked that it was there and this is very unfortunate to hear.

I haven't been around in years but I think about my time and the people I met on the [asmb] fairly often. Sadly it looks like the last time I checked in was when Luuv passed. I'm so sorry to hear about another member passing especially so suddenly.

I didn’t interact with her much, but always saw pretty awesome things from her while lurking.

My condolences go out to everyone who did hang with her and got to know her well.

This is like when my stepmother calls from my hometown to let me know that somebody's died. It's  a small town, so I may not know the person, but I know the name, and I know where they fit. It's not necessarily grief, but a hollowness - another piece of home is gone.

RIP. I didn't know you, but I knew your name and where you fit. You, too, were a piece of home, and you will be missed.

...Well. That's some terrible news to come home to, to put it lightly.

Out of all the fine folks I've interacted with here, from pre-ACTN Dark Age ASMB to whatever you wanna call this present era, Angel was always one of my favorites. Even when she tore into me for saying some really stupid and creepy shit, I never felt too bummed or angered about it. No post she made was ever dull, and seeing her regularly pop in with her thoughts on the weekly Toonami lineup in the Trunks thread, even after all the other regulars peeled out, was always a comfort. It was a good run of almost twenty years, getting to know her on these boards, and it's a damn shame I'll never get to interact with her again, in an online capacity or in some one-in-a-million IRL encounter. It really does suck.

The ol' discussion thread's gonna feel real empty moving forward. Maybe it's finally time to hang it up and call it quits?

R.I.P. mgangel1124. Tonight's viewing of two weeks ago's BLUELOCK will be dedicated to you. I'll enjoy it as much as you didn't.

My condolences to those of you that knew her - I did not, but I know some of you in this post and if she was a friend, then she had to be a pretty great person.  BTW - I hold everyone here in high-regard, whether I know you or not.

Rest in peace even though we've never interacted with each other and regardless of what folder camp we congregate to I feel like we're all family here so I'm really saddened by this.

Someone pointed that out earlier and I just burst out laughing because if there was ever a type of post she'd choose to have as her last, it'd be something like that.

RIP to Empress Angel.  I did not expect this at all.  Had a lot of fun discussing the shows with her over the years.  I'm going to miss her funny comments roasting the shows and the characters.  Of course I wanted to hear what she had to say about Bleach, One Piece, and other shows.  I remember she was one of the Bleach manga thread regulars too.

I agree that this is another one that doesn't feel real, like we're in a bad dream or wrong timeline or something.

Just seeing this. Goddamn... may she rest in peace. It takes a special kind of sicko to keep doing what she did for so long, posting in that Trunks thread with mostly just Poke to keep her company.

I remember her being such a fun presence on the Action Discussion folder. We didn’t talk much, but it was always wonderful to see her on weekly episode threads and posts about Adult Swim anime. May she rest easy and peacefully.
