The Giants have been facing a ton of blowback for insulting their queer fans by having three pitchers deface Pride hats with Bible verses intending to take the rainbow away from them. If they felt this strongly, they could’ve opted to wear their regular hats, but deliberately chose to antagonize fans specifically on the San Francisco Giants’ Pride night where they were expected to be accepted and respected by their favorite team.
This originally happened on the 12th, but since then, it’s ballooned into a larger conversation about Pride in baseball with all of the other teams except for the Texas Rangers taking part. The A’s in particular managed to hold a Pride night without hitches and were immediately treated like heroes by comparison.
Now the DoJ is probing the MLB to investigate players’ “religious freedom” to present their homophobia in a flowery manner. Currently, the pitchers are trying to get back to focusing on ball and citing Clayton Kershaw as their reason for doing it, but it comes off like the same lack of critical thought as the rookie who ditched a game for the Charlie Kirk memorial.
