  1. Nothing better than watching dumbasses lose massive sums of money for no good reason.
  2. Fun fact: as far as I'm aware this is the last truly stand-alone bit of filler in the entire series up to the present day. There are a couple other brief filler arcs after this, but those are tie-ins to the most recent movie release at the time. Now is it entirely worth it solely to see Nami and Carrot dressed as Marines? Absolutely.
  3. I thought I'd spend most of tonight's block watching through tears, but honestly it was a nice distraction instead. Guarantee you I won't make it through this post though. Supes: I seriously regret never managing to get Angel into this show. She said she wasn't interested in the character at all, but I know for a fact she would have loved himbo Clark with a passion. Really good to have this one back. Jimmy and Kara are goddamn adorable together. "Is this a dog?" Sure, just explore this creepy giant underground space full of alien life and Venture clones, what could possibly go wrong? BIZARRO! I'M HELPING! Oh my God those trick-or-treating kids were wholesome as fuck. This version of Luthor is a perfect modern techbro ween. Dan Da Dan: If it wasn't obvious Angel loved the shit out of this show. For most of this episode my brain kept replaying that legally-distinct Godzilla scene from Austin Powers. Airi may be a massive betch but she sure as hell knows her way around a kaiju fight. Oh goddammit weeb. "I want to murder." Wait are they doing what I think they're--oh my God YESSSSSSSS. "I'm riding in a giant robot and I'M NOT MATURE ENOUGH TO TALK QUIETLY ABOUT THAT!" We are all this weeb. C'mon, you guys are teenagers with attitude, you should be naturals. This is the best goddamn show I have ever seen. Blue Lock: Fun story, for the past couple of months Angel kept trying to convince me that we could just drop this trainwreck to save our sanities. And yet here I am for some reason. Does the show think that giving us a flashback of an asshole character who's always been an asshole is supposed to garner him any sympathy? Okay I kind of love Isagi rubbing it in said asshole's face. Oh my God how is this show getting even more fucking stupid. I just realized that the only female character is named Anri Teieri and now I'm even angrier. Tokyo Revengers: I wonder how confused Draken is that his dumbass old friend doesn't remember anything about events he was present for...oh wait there he goes. By the end of all this Takemichi's gonna need to save like a few dozen people in the right order. Psycho kid's talking about how he hates Mikey because he lost two years of his life in prison, dude you LITERALLY MURDERED SOMEONE. I would have laughed my ass off if Hinata had said, "I'm regifting your necklace." So hey eyepatch kid, I think your old boss really is just an asshole. I like how you can tell the only characters who matter by their stupid-ass haircuts, a la the terribly dressed enemy Stand users in Jojo. Y'know psycho kid has a good point, why the hell do you need a referee for a massive street brawl to the death? Wonder how long it'll take next week until Takemichi gets the shit kicked out of him again. One Piece: I have very little memory of this filler. But is it completely worth it solely for Marine Nami and Carrot? Why yes, yes it is. Hey, don't pick on Luffy, Chopper was always there as the emergency food supply. Luffy and Carrot off on their own, surely nothing can go wrong here. Dimestore Sanji's attempt to impress the ladies has failed. I like how absolutely no one batted an eye at the guy wearing the most famous hat in the world and a literal bunny girl walking around until it was pointed out to them. And...there. Hope I did it a bit of justice.
  4. Thanks for keeping this going for so long Poke. I can't promise how long I'll go but...I'd like to try posting at least a bit in here. It doesn't feel right to leave it like this.
  5. Someone pointed that out earlier and I just burst out laughing because if there was ever a type of post she'd choose to have as her last, it'd be something like that.
  6. I don't know how you're supposed to start a thread like this. I keep hoping that it's some horrific dream that I'll wake up from. Yesterday we learned that @EmpressAngel had suddenly passed away on Tuesday. To say that I'm gutted doesn't even begin to describe it. There's a group of us who got to know each other in the Action folder on the ASMB, and some 20 years ago we started getting together in AIM group chats, at first to watch and discuss shows together but eventually to just hang out and talk every night. Angel was part of it from the beginning. Our group survived the end of AIM and moved to Discord, and hardly a day went by when I didn't talk to her about something or other. She'd send me the most godawful trash anime DVDs she could find every birthday and Christmas, along with delicious homemade cookies as an apology. We just watched one of them together this past weekend. Nothing about this feels real. I think Cille put it best: she should be here, but now she's not.
  7. Meanwhile most of this area is under a moderate drought. We've been scarce on rain for a few months now.
  8. I immediately love this fucking weeb. The Back to the Future II flashback bit completely sent me.
  9. This series was absolute peak and I hope to God Viz is able to get a second season produced. We are all chicken stans. Also I love this show of all things managed to do the near-death poignant flashback far better than any of the bullshit Demon Slayer pulled.
  10. Dunno what the rest of you are talking about, I've genuinely enjoyed this show.
  11. I ain't sayin' she's a golddigger... Oh no, Carrot is 100% furry. Embrace it!
  12. Thanks show, I really wanted to be emotionally devastated all over again tonight! In other news it's fun to remember the exact moment that Oda irrevocably broke me with Carrot. Turns out the furry thoughts can in fact catch you.
  13. ...I spoke entirely too soon.
  14. Maid asshole guy. What a terrible night to have eyes.
  15. Aww yeah, cock that lasts for hours.
  16. The Goa Kingdom (including Foosha Village where Luffy grew up) is located in the East Blue. Anyone traveling from there to the Grand Line has to go over Reverse Mountain, so they'd naturally stop at Loguetown before doing so.
  17. The initial problem wasn't Jiji's fault at all, and Momo wanted to help her childhood friend (and Okarun initially tagged along because he was mad jelly). As for the second, Jiji is showing basic human compassion for a pitiable creature that has known nothing but pain and suffering for its entire existence. Yes, keeping the Evil Eye around is an objectively bad idea and isn't remotely tenable over the long-term. Assistant guy is right, it should be exorcised despite Jiji's feelings. But as Seiko put it, what if there was another way, one that just for once protected children from just how terrible the world is? She clearly wants to believe in that world. And Okarun is so committed to helping because, well, Jiji's his friend, and you help your friends no matter what. To paraphrase my favorite book, "The pity of Jiji may rule the fate of many."
  18. No, Roger was executed in Loguetown, the island in East Blue that's located closest to the entrance to the Grand Line. Fun fact from some stuff that the Toonami run skipped past: that lovely piece of shit king in the hotel room is actually...Sabo's adopted brother. Can't pick your family, right? Very, VERY previously on One Piece. Alabasta remains one of the all-time great arcs of the series, especially its climax. In the original anime version Luffy's final blow against Crocodile featured a spectacular music choice, Dvorak's New World Symphony. Absolutely worth a watch if you haven't seen it: Y'know it's funny just how many times over the past several years that the Toonami run has had nigh-perfect synergy with something going on in the current broadcast episodes, and this week is no exception. Suffice it to say that even though the Reverie gets sandwiched between much longer arcs, it is an extremely big deal.
  19. Whoops, they left in a few shots of the no-no symbol in the recap at the start. Naughty!
