Great way to start the holidays.

Thread goes on to point out that everyone who bailed on the dumbass "2.0" nonsense got three months' severance, while these poor sods (very probably many likely on visa without the luxury of choice) only get 4 weeks.

Some of the visa folks who had little choice but to stay on or face deportation got fired anyway. What a prick.

So...this fucking happened:

That tweet is probably still up because he has shit for brains, but I blocked him so I don't know for sure. This is the first time I blocked a CEO because I was afraid of seeing responses to their tweet that might contain child porn or links to it. I have not had any risk of that during my entirety on Twitter before today. WHAT THE EVERLOVING FUCK?!

Nazis, eh?

... It could be a nationalized phone.

Everyone is issued one along with a twitter account at birth.

It tracks your location, everything you say...

And you do everything through it. Shop, apply for jobs, sign up for insurance, talk to people in the next room... vote.

*also  this is apparently post #420 in this thread. Just saw that and thought "heh".

Half of Twitter's top 100 advertisers appear to no longer be advertising on the website. A report from Media Matters for America states that these 50 advertisers have spent almost $2 billion on Twitter ads since 2020 and more than $750 million just in 2022.

Seven additional advertisers have slowed their advertising to almost nothing, according to the report, which was published on Tuesday. These companies have paid Twitter more than $255 million since 2020.

Chevrolet, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc., Ford, Jeep, Kyndryl, Merck & Co. and Novartis AG all issued statements about halting Twitter ads or were reported and confirmed as doing so. The others ceased advertising on the platform for a "significant period of time following direct outreach, controversies, and warnings from media buyers."

The report wrote that even with these hits to advertising revenue, Twitter CEO Elon Musk has "continued his rash of brand unsafe actions — including amplifying conspiracy theories, unilaterally reinstating banned accounts such as that of former President Donald Trump, courting and engaging with far-right accounts, and instituting a haphazard verification scheme that allowed extremists and scammers to purchase a blue check."

It's the EU stuff that sounds super fun to see play out.

Just a shame we won't see any proper coverage of it to maybe wake people up to how barbaric our working conditions are.

Elon Musk musking up Twitter doesn't seem as crazy when you put together the whole timeline. The timelines of twitter users themselves during this whole thing, The stories of the various employees, execs, and engineers fired, and Mr. Muskie's own media attention sourrounding recent develpments are probably all just going to work in his favor regardless of what side you take on the matter. A dude that sends people into space... I mean Elon has employed the same strategy he's used in taking over any other company he had no idea how to run after initially looking at it and getting and anime nose bleed that's true. That approach has worked many times, and I doubt he's feeling any kind of remorse or second thoughts about the entire situation is my two cents worth..

When Musk bought Twitter what happened to all the people that held stock?  Were they all cut a check based off what he paid per share?

yea if you had twitter stock you get to sell it $54.20/share

it's endlessly amusing that he set that price in the deal right before the market puked

He doesn’t gaf about free speech in America.  He does however understand our first amendment quite well, as he’s repeatedly demonstrated, much to the dismay of his Bros.

He only cares about controlling America through the bribery of our politicians

The Supreme Court held that money is speech, therefore withholding marketing budgets is corporations quite literally giving their opinions. You don’t have free speech without a free market.

@NewBluntsworth Sorry I hurt your feelings :(
