How often do you call off work?

For me, it's normally 3 to 6 times a year. I haven't called off in 3 months, one of my longest stretches in a while. I'm trying not to for the rest of the year, just so I can accumulate more sick leave for the winter. Hooray for being a lowly wage slave.

I only get one week of vacation time a year and it can roll over into the next year. I can cash it out once I leave, as I don't plan on being a career barista. I get a little more sick time, but I can't cash out that shit, so of course I'm gonna use it.

well honestly, if i like the job situation, as little as possible.

but if i dont have the interest and needs that it takes to want that job,

then i actually call in sick days almost instantly if i dont feel good,

more than i would at a job i really like by a longshot.

at many jobs it becomes an issue if you are going to work through the hard times or quit,  so i always hope it doesnt go down that road.

Nah, people at my work call off all the time, mostly because it's not a career for most of us and we don't respect the job that much.

A lot of people call out at my job very very often mostly because they get tired of arguing with idiots all day. My strategy is when they want to argue back them into a corner where they ask for a supervisor and just them off my fucking phone. That happens less than 10 calls out of 800 tho.

Lol im getting that way at my job too! Today i needed to pee and i had a headache but i thought "ah, i can take one more call."

Ended up on the phone for another hour.

I dont know whats happening. I used to take like 6 pee breaks outside of scheduled breaks just to sit on the toilet and hate my life lol

On my midyear review my manager (above supervisor)  said i was passionate about my job. Fuck that. Im just dead inside and cant fight no more.

Three to six times per year, and that's with FMLA.  It might change after November.  The governor passed a law that grants one hour of paid sick time for each thirty hours worked.  It supersedes the CBA attendance policy.

What are you on FMLA for?

When I worked in grocery, I called out whenever I fucking didn't want to go in. A perk of being the boss.

But usually only a few times a year.

However, I was working for a company that was a 2 hour drive one way. It was prohibited for one person to be on duty overnight. My stocker had called out, and I got almost all the way there and got a phone call saying not to come in.

After that night, I called out a few times just to be a dick.

maybe twice a year ... maybe.

I try not to because I always get anxiety about doing it. Usually I'll go on in and leave early if I feel sick. Most of the time I've called in when my baby is sick and fussy .... well when he was a baby  We dont get sick pay unless you provide a doctor's statement. (which isn't in the policy but the senior manager wont approve sick time otherwise) Every illness doesn't even require a doctor's visit.

i get like 12 days every year for pto/health. i might take one or two each year for myself, on average. the kids are usually the reason i take off though. if they're sick and we can't send them to daycare, wife and i take turns taking days off to stay home with them. beyond that, i schedule a few days each year to extend weekends for whatever reason. this year will be the first since kids that i've had surplus days to carry over.

Never unless I just actually can't. My last job I called out twice in four and a half years, there were a few times when I definitely should have but I just showed up and did it anyway bc there was no one else/lowest tier manager would have to work a double.

Hate the culture of guilt around ever calling out from understaffed places.
