bnmjy
For me, it's normally 3 to 6 times a year. I haven't called off in 3 months, one of my longest stretches in a while. I'm trying not to for the rest of the year, just so I can accumulate more sick leave for the winter. Hooray for being a lowly wage slave. bnmjy
I only get one week of vacation time a year and it can roll over into the next year. I can cash it out once I leave, as I don't plan on being a career barista. I get a little more sick time, but I can't cash out that shit, so of course I'm gonna use it. Hooray for being a lowly wage slave. well honestly, if i like the job situation, as little as possible. but if i dont have the interest and needs that it takes to want that job, then i actually call in sick days almost instantly if i dont feel good, more than i would at a job i really like by a longshot. at many jobs it becomes an issue if you are going to work through the hard times or quit, so i always hope it doesnt go down that road. fuggstop
I call out or leave early a lot because of the bipolars. I still have one full point left for the year tho (u get 10 points a year...i use them by .5 ot .75 by leaving early instead of calling out) Getting FMLA next year! A lot of people call out at my job very very often mostly because they get tired of arguing with idiots all day. My strategy is when they want to argue back them into a corner where they ask for a supervisor and just them off my fucking phone. That happens less than 10 calls out of 800 tho. tsar4
Maybe once or twice a year. Most times I go in, then start realizing I really am not feeling well and go home. It's been a while since I've thrown my back out, thankfully. Edited October 17, 2018 by tsar4
KimopoBotar
Since i got this position i called off once. Hopefully won't need to for a while. In my old position it was like once every couple of months. That job took its toll on me. Edited October 17, 2018 by KimopoBotar

SwimModSponges
Last time I had a seizure, but that happened on a day I had off. I came in the next day and they sent me home for a week or so. Otherwise PTO is done in advance, but pretty rarely. I have two days I have to burn at some point in december or I lose em.
scoobdog
I don't. I mean, I guess I tell the other partners when I'm taking time off to do things, but I don't turn my phone off, so its kind of hard to say I ever really take time off. Fuck that. Im just dead inside and cant fight no more.

midnight
When I worked in grocery, I called out whenever I fucking didn't want to go in. A perk of being the boss. But usually only a few times a year. However, I was working for a company that was a 2 hour drive one way. It was prohibited for one person to be on duty overnight. My stocker had called out, and I got almost all the way there and got a phone call saying not to come in. After that night, I called out a few times just to be a dick. Bouvre
Once a year, unless I'm sick more than once a year, or sick for longer than one day. I really don't like calling out for anything other than sickness.

Swimmod_Luna
Depends on how much I hate my job at the time. I get sick enough to genuinely need sick time maybe one or two times a year. But if I hate my job I'll call off like once every other month.

Vamped
maybe twice a year ... maybe. I try not to because I always get anxiety about doing it. Usually I'll go on in and leave early if I feel sick. Most of the time I've called in when my baby is sick and fussy .... well when he was a baby We dont get sick pay unless you provide a doctor's statement. (which isn't in the policy but the senior manager wont approve sick time otherwise) Every illness doesn't even require a doctor's visit.
wacky1980
i get like 12 days every year for pto/health. i might take one or two each year for myself, on average. the kids are usually the reason i take off though. if they're sick and we can't send them to daycare, wife and i take turns taking days off to stay home with them. beyond that, i schedule a few days each year to extend weekends for whatever reason. this year will be the first since kids that i've had surplus days to carry over. NaBarney
Never unless I just actually can't. My last job I called out twice in four and a half years, there were a few times when I definitely should have but I just showed up and did it anyway bc there was no one else/lowest tier manager would have to work a double. Hate the culture of guilt around ever calling out from understaffed places.
