House is wrapping up impeachment vote right now. So far ten Republicans voted yes. 231-197 with five voted outstanding.

Despite the Dems losing seats, that's one more yes vote than last year.

So now we wait for the hot tag from Mitch in the Senate, and I think I know how that goes

McConnell won’t call the Senate back for an emergency session. I want him tfo now, but I get the feeling that more Republican Senators will be willing to convict AFTER he’s no longer in office. Why do I think this?  Because the GOP are cowards, afraid of the monster they helped create.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Wednesday that starting next week, lawmakers will face hefty fines if they refuse to go through newly installed metal detectors to enter the House chamber.

Pelosi said that the House will adopt new rules when it returns to session Jan. 21 to mandate stiff fines for bypassing security: $5,000 for the first offense and $10,000 for the second. The fines will be deducted from lawmakers' salaries.

Also, fines for not wearing masks.

House Democrats adopted new rules Tuesday night to mandate fines for lawmakers who fail to follow rules requiring masks on the House floor during the COVID-19 pandemic. Failure to wear a mask will result in a $500 fine on the first offense and $2,500 for a repeat offense.

Adoption of the fines for failing to wear masks came after several House Republicans were maskless while spending hours crowded in a secure space with hundreds of other lawmakers last Wednesday while law enforcement worked to clear the Capitol complex of the rioters.

Three House Democrats who were in the secure space have since tested positive for COVID-19.

I don't like to say things without evidence, but I'm really wondering if some members of the GOP planned to intentionally spread COVID-19. Greene and a few others were giving tours to rioters and the fact that the shelter's quarters are cramped really makes me think that there should be an investigation as to whether infection of Democratic lawmakers was part of the plan.

Like the intelligence agencies said, this wasn't a spontaneous thing. There is probably a smaller inner circle coordinating things. Whether that group is rooted online, in the White House or in Congress remains to be seen.

I gotta wonder what he thinks the people were gonna do with zip ties while storming the capitol.

Shapiro is either ignorant or disingenuous (probably this). Not all zip ties are the same. The ones that suspects were carrying around in the capitol are made specifically for binding people: https://www.amazon.com/Tool-Gadget-Disposable-Handcuffs-Restraints/dp/B074MQ2TFG

There may need to legislation passed to bind the sales of these types of zip ties considering they've been used in crimes before.

i'm having a hard time reconciling how it was only a few house republicans who were maskless (no democrats), but only a few house democrats have since tested positive (no republicans). can someone clarify?

The clear party division is a hell of a coincidence.... but the masks are supposed to be more effective on those who have it to keep from spreading rather than being more effective for the ones who don't have it to be protected. So wear a mask even if your OWN mask doesn't benefit YOU specifically much, because we're all in this together, and if we all do this it will spread a hell of a lot less.

Oh yeah also "Well I feel fine so I'm not sick, so why do I need to wear it?" You could be infected but not showing symptoms YET, or you could be an asymptomatic carrier, basically you may have it and not know it and can spread to other people with you none the wiser.

...but that's my whole point. if a republican person was positive and had no mask on, it would make sense that some democrats with masks picked it up from them. but none of the positive cases are republicans. so either the "masks are effective" argument doesn't hold true in this instance, or there's some (unintentional?) misinformation being pushed because it fits a narrative.

again, i'd love it if someone could square this one for me. maybe it's just a giant coincidence.

Could be Republican asymptomatic / pre-symptomatic carriers.

Masks are not a guarantee, particularly when you're in close quarters for a long period of time. They're meant to prevent the spread when you're going out and making sure to maintain distance. If you're doing one and not the other, then the chances of spread go up further.

I caught COVID last month. I was wearing a mask and making sure to social distance, but I still caught it due to others around me not doing the same. It's a weird thing to be sick with, I thought I had allergies until I lost my sense of smell and cases started breaking out at work. My wife wound up catching it and we wound up having a baby two months early. He should be getting out of isolation in the NICU if he tests negative today.

wasn't really expecting the turn that post took. congratulations on the offspring! and good luck with those test results today.

i'm pretty well-versed on the science behind mask wearing, which is what makes this particular story so striking. statistically speaking, there shouldn't be a closed group of people where the positive cases lay solely in the mask-wearing folks and entirely miss the unmasked folks. there has to be an explanation, either lack of testing/reporting by the maskless folks and/or or a greater (yet unknown) set of folks who are carrying and just not presenting symptoms yet / won't at all. it's too big a coincidence, barring any unknown factors.

@Ginguy if you dont fight Trump jr. will be coming for you.

In a few months he'll be in your backyard.

Trump Jr. looks like a skinny pussy. If he came in my backyard, I'd send my daughter to beat him up in order to practice for the mean girls she'll meet in pre-school.

He tested negative so he gets to move to second step NICU. My supervisor at my place of work, where I caught it, had the gall to tell me "I hope you appreciate what we're doing for you in order to keep your job" in regards to me working from home for a few months ... something I should've been doing all along. It's like, if my co-workers had been careful and I was chewed out for keeping my office door closed during the pandemic, I may not have been in this situation. Needless to say, I don't see myself staying there for the rest of my life.

no job is more important than your health and the health of your family.

my day job (bank IT mgmt) has been required on-site, 100% of the time since the start of this. they wouldn't even consider letting me set up a system to get the management + back office folks linked into the network with laptops and vpn connections from home, because they think the security risk is too great. nevermind the fact that we link our bank branches in with the exact same tech and nobody bats an eye at that.

i have a feeling that the shitty workplaces will get weeded out after this all settles down, and nature will take its course on them.

Maybe it’s only democrats coming forward with their results?  They should have been partially protected cuz they had 1 of 2 of the vaccine.  The companies claim that one shot gives 80-90% protection.  Maybe that’s true if it’s only 3 out of idk how many people were in the room got covid

I find I work better from home anyway. We had a change of management over the summer from someone in their 40s who said "work from home as much as you can" when all this started to and older guy who said "I want everyone in the office" to someone that didn't say much one way or the other, but we were still told by our supervisors to come in. I'm the communications specialist for a POA, but I already have a setup at home to handle everything which I emphasized over and over to little avail until we had the pandemic send most of the employees home.

I always found them annoying when the gyms were open because they grunted, groaned and when they did these really crappy lifts they'd celebrate afterwards like they had the biggest dick in the prison shower.

If I knew there was a fucking show, I'd actually drag my fat ass to the gym.

Prosecutors said that Chansley [aka Jake Angeli, the Q Shaman] left a note on the Senate Chamber dais for Mike Pence where the vice president had been sitting just moments before during the session, to certify the Electoral College results, warning "it's only a matter of time, justice is coming."
