"We love every part of democracy except for that pesky "letting people decide for themselves" thing involved with it."

The whole point of why our government is supposedly so great is not only voting, but the checks and balances system with the 3 branches. They're literally not even just trying to do away with checks and balances altogerther, they're trying to make it illegal to even attempt to provide checks and balances.  It's like they're intentionally not even trying to hide that they are facists anymore.

The same people who lost their minds over mask mandates as being governmental overreach taking away the individual's right to make their own medical decisions should not be allowed to push laws that do absolutely exactly that.

One is a 10-minute inconvenience during a trip to Wallyworld for snacks. The other is a life-altering/life-endangering event whether you consented or not. These are not the same.

Try 'lady-hole'. Or 'crotch-garden'. If they want to be dumb with the filter, be dumb back.

I swear some of those reply filters do not take into account in the slightest that what you are trying to talk about is EXACTLY what's in the article in the first place.

It gets worse:

The high court, whose nine justices are all Republicans, said in its unsigned opinion that a "good faith belief" by Damla Karsan, a doctor who sought to perform the abortion and sued alongside Cox, that the procedure was medically necessary was not enough to qualify for the state's exception.

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/texas-woman-who-sought-emergency-abortion-court-will-leave-state-care-2023-12-11/

Everyone should read the court's opinion, it's really short.

These judges have ZERO CLUE WTF THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT

It's a feature, not a bug.

The lawsuit was asking for courts to pre-approve the abortion, because the statute is intentionally vague on what meets the threshold and no doctor/hospital wants to put their life on the line without a green light.

Their supreme court is basically saying courts can't preclear because it is the doctor's job to decide, but a court can still decide afterwards whether the doctor met the threshold.

It's intended to create the "climate of fear" where no one wants to be the test case.

Didn’t Ohio vote to put reproductive rights into their constitution?  Wtf?

A lot of restrictions and gotcha clauses are on the books, and the Ohio GOP is still working to enshrine a total abortion ban because fuck you.

Omfg between this Ohio case and the Texas case where the Justices actually said something along the lines of gestational diabetes isn’t a condition that one should abort a fetus over because pregnancies are difficult sometimes. So fuck the human incubator, right? We can get permanently deformed from a non viable pregnancy but hey fuck it. Pregnancy comes with complications so fuck you. Cry about it.

-half of US states, definitely

If the Dems get the House and Senate next election, expect someone to push a federal abortion protection on the books since it’s clear the states won’t.  Of course odds are they’ll go “states rights!” but it could easily be a case of healthcare access being equal.

'State's Rights' only seem to matter when there's a Dem in the WH.

They are completely fine with federal rules on all the things if it's being stated by a dictator in the WH though.

WOmen....we have a serious situation.

“This ruling is stating that a fertilized egg, which is a clump of cells, is now a person. It really puts into question, the practice of IVF,” Barbara Collura, CEO of RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association, told The Associated Press Tuesday. The group called the decision a “terrifying development for the 1-in-6 people impacted by infertility” who need in-vitro fertilization.

Do they get to be claimed as dependents? If not, they’re not children.

They'd better get to claim them. Storage is expensive, and you know that anybody who supports this bill isn't going to volunteer to pay for it. Kind of like how the states that restrict abortion don't improve on maternal and children's services...

None of these guys can science. Remember, there are elected officials who believe that ectopic pregnancies are viable.

Yeah there are elected assholes that really think “oh just cut the woman open and put the egg where it belongs”  it’s ridiculous that people make decisions like this but have absolutely no science education.

Remember when this ruling came down the GOP applauded the decision to make this a state decision and swore up and down they wouldn’t make a national ban on abortion?  Seems so long ago.  Won’t be long before the septic abortion wards open back up

Even better, all females capable of ovulation can now claim themselves as Head of Household on their tax forms and claim up to no less than 1,000 dependents regardless of marriage status.

Hey, don't be sexist. Sperm can be children, too. So why is jacking off legal?

Because none of the laws currently being pushed by dudes consider jacking off to be wanton abandonment. And jacking off is a choice which apparently is very acceptable for dudes.

Personally I'm tired of dealing with other peoples' pet sperms.

Former President Donald Trump on Monday said abortion should be left to the states in the post-Roe era, declining to endorse any national limit on the procedure.

His announcement, shared on Truth Social, is likely to disappoint anti-abortion groups who hoped he would use his bully pulpit to endorse national restrictions on abortion, especially after his campaign floated a 15-week ban earlier this year. Trump instead said that it was “up to the states to do the right thing” on abortion, painting Democrats as “radical” on the issue.

“The states will determine by vote or legislation or perhaps both, and whatever they decide must be the law of the land,” Trump said. “Many states will be different. Many will have a different number of weeks, or some will [be] more conservative than others, and that’s what they will be. At the end of the day, this is all about the will of the people.”

The announcement highlights Trump’s recognition that abortion has dogged Republicans on the campaign trail since the fall of Roe v. Wade nearly two years ago — and his primary goal of winning the 2024 election. He has chided other Republicans for speaking “inaccurately” on abortion, intimating that severe restrictions have cost the GOP winnable elections. On Sunday night and again Monday morning he urged people to “follow their heart” or their religion but encouraged voters to remember the stakes.

I don't think anyone genuinely thought a known rapist would seriously endorse a national ban, but, at the same time, he's politically weak enough that he would still sign such a ban into law if it meant achieving other personal agenda items.

He'll sign off on it in a heartbeat if he gets back in. He's just pulling this crap because literally every single election that's popped up since has gone for the person who isn't screaming that gelly-blobs are BABIES. He was told to tone down his stance on no choice at all because its not a winning stance right now. When he no longer has to worry about what the little people think, he'll pass all the laws to ensure everyone knows they are the little people.

Cruelty is the reason for all the things.
