it's not with the clergy or doctrines being taught it's you know the practitioners not following the doctrine that I just know so many people I know who First cast the first stone instead of turning the other cheek you know what I mean and playing the victim when in fact they're the victimizer they still claim to have faith in God and read the Bible and shit or at least go to church or mass on Sundays  fuck that shit

is the part of being religious is to follow the example of the you know of the teachings of the founder of the religion I eat for Christianity you know Jesus Christ

I mean it sometimes confuses me why churches allow people you know in their organizations when they don't live up to the teachings of the guy that you know founded the whole freaking religion no matter you know Christian no manner protestant, catholic, Eastern Orthodox ,Mormonism or anabaptist

I have read the Bible and trust me I think what Jesus if he comes back today would be a very ashamed of us people who believe in God

My own personal stance is that God's not real and when we die, that's it. But people should believe whatever they want, as long as they, as a human, are not using those beliefs to harm or persecute other humans in any way. Same with people who fall closer to the end of the spectrum that I'm on. Do whatever you want, as long as no one is getting hurt, persecuted, or discriminated against. We're not here for a long time, so let's be here for a good time. Do what brings you joy at all times. Minding the qualifier I've stated, of course.

As someone who can only remember stepping foot in a church twice in my entire life, I feel uniquely qualified to speak on this subject. That's my sermon on the mount. I gotta go to work.

I think where I ended up getting disillusioned by faith is how most religions think followers of others religion is condemned.

You might be pious and follow your main religion this whole time, but there is also the possibility of still ending up in another religion’s underworld because how were you supposed to know the true answer was a completely different faith than the one you were raised with?

And on that matter, it might be sinful to convert from your first religion, but virtuous to be born again into your second religion. So then, it’s a tug of war as far as which religion wins out on either condemning or rewarding you based on your decision.

@Chapinator_X     that's an interesting statement you made I never realized it as as being condemned on both sides

interesting

I choose not to believe in a god who says that it's people are free to do whatever they want... but don't eat this apple. Oh! And if you all choose to not believe in me, I'll wipe you all from existence.

Fuck religion and it's nonsensical, controlling bullshit

When you point out the fallacies and inconsistencies, followers will throw around the word faith.
I've started telling people that faith is just a pretty word for willful ignorance.

If ever the phrase "oof" wasn't a lazy dipshit reply I think it the context here would be necessary. I feel it's still an aloof reply, but..

OOF. You better kill your firstborn immediately if you hear any angelic voices telling you to then..Though you may not have to worry about that.

You are a christian though right? I believe you said you think you are anyway so here's an example of the laws you want people to follow. I was even considerate and picked from the new testiment. Go figure.

in 1 Corinthians 14:34–35 women are commanded to keep silence in the congregation. The apostle is very forceful in his language concerning this prohibition; he states that if a woman even wants to ask a question she should wait until she gets home and ask her husband. He goes on to say that if anyone does not recognize this as the commandment of the Lord, then that person should not be recognized as worth listening to.

I just hate lies and liars, and religion as I see it is all based on feeding people made up stories to try and get them to behave according to the rules and beliefs of its leaders. Its purpose is basically the same as government, but it lacks direct power to enforce people to adhere to its tenets nowadays, so it relies upon instilling guilt over bad behavior and fear of punishment in the hereafter to try and influence people's behavior and get them to conform to whatever the desired norm is.

Yes, because fiction writers make it a point to preface to their readers that their works are all 100% the truth and people ought to believe and follow what they say to save their eternal souls.

You said you hate lies and liars. Fiction is basically lies written by liars.

Where is this preface in any Bible.

Just because man tells you it's true doesn't mean the book did.

So a liar isn't a liar as long as they don't say they are telling the truth?

Fucking game changer

Do we really have to go over the semantics of what constitutes "fiction"? Whenever Bouvre posts her published works here, is there any question as to whether what she wrote actually happened in real life or is it just assumed she's telling a story? By the same token, does this make her a liar?

Fiction by definition is a lie, writing fiction is lying. It's not a malicious lie but semantics be damned.

I thought you were maybe just joking before, but do you really not understand what a lie is and that you're comparing apples and oranges here? A lie has the intention to deceive. Someone writing a fiction novel or something like that does so with the intent to entertain, not to deceive and get people to believe what they are saying is true. Kind of a big difference.

So, if I make up a story but never claim it is true it's not a lie, by your logic.

The very nature of fiction is deception. Just because that makes you uncomfortable doesn't make it less the case.
