Water is, too.  It's not a very efficient one.  Most gasses are refrigerants and the general rule of thumb is that the lower the boiling point, the more efficient it will be in refrigeration.

I like to use Propane and Butane because they are normally used as accelerants so nobody really puts thought into "Oh this can actually be used to cool things"

So, you make or fix refrigeration units?  Or, maybe you have a different application that requires very quick cooling.  Some of the gasses used in the past include sulfur dioxide and ammonia gas.  They proved to be too dangerous because back in those times, the manufacturers hadn't come up with self defrost models.  People would jab at the thick frost with picks, trying to defrost faster, but bust open the coil.  That let the toxic gas out.  Of course, I'm guessing that you'd rather not see a combustible gas leak emitting from your fridge or air conditioner.

I have my Universal HVAC.

And pure ammonia is hard to detect, has no smell, and in a confined "enough" space can kill a person in under 3 minutes... they simply "pass out" and are dead.

Luckily synthetics are taking over and are HCFC based, so not nearly as bad for you or the environment.

Hell there even is a direct retrofit for old R-12 systems that eliminates the need to vacuum and convert to R-134a.. its just a bit more expensive for the time being.

What's HCFC?

Did you know: Sans from Undertale was originally going to be in Super Smash Bros. However, after Nintendo found out about his explicit relationship with Freddy Fazbear of Five Nights at Freddy's, they scrapped the character and replaced him with Dark Pit. In the games coding, there were also voice clips for Goku, Shrek, and Minecraft, but it is assumed that the characters were scrapped to meet the scheduled release date.

Did you know: Mario's occupation in Super Mario Bros. was made clear from the warp pipes he traveled through, but during early development, enemies also reflected his job as a plumber. Originally, the goombas were supposed to be walking feces that backed up the pipes of the Mushroom Kingdom. The enchanted excriment was meant to explain how Princess Toadstool got her name. However, the CEO of Nintendo was quoted as to saying:

"This is repulsive. If I knew this would be that type of game, I wouldn't have dumped my surplus of 1980's yen on such a game. Make them something innocent like a mushroom or anything else or we'll withhold funding for this and future titles."

Miyamoto relented and made the goombas mushroom residents of the Mushroom Kingdom gone awry, but on the condition that their tops were brown to symbolize Bowser's post-anal mushroom stamp meant for Mario.

Did you know: There are voice clips hidden in day one copies of Ocarina of Time that suggests that the souls of the damned were trapped in the N64 cartridges. You can hear some of them in the Shadow Temple, where encounter with six enemies will cause a loud boom that, when slowed down, reveals a letter. The six letters that complete the message are: M, A, J, O, R, and A, the letters that spell out Majora. It is suggested that this is a warning not to play 2000's Majora's Mask, lest you follow the same fate they did by getting their souls trapped in an eternal prison inside of a game cartridge.

This thread is dedicated for obscure facts, interesting facts, stupid facts, boring facts, or any kind of facts you like.

Did you know the the worlds oldest steel sword was dated to 600 BC and was found in Israel?

A possum would eat up to 5,000 ticks per year and never contract or transmit lyme disease.  More than ninety percent of possums are naturally immune to rabies.  They are good for your garden because they eat slugs and other plant wrecking pests.

Jingai is the reverse kanji formation of gaijin, a somewhat controversial word for foreigner.

I was gonna make a new thread about this . . . but I'll just bump this instead.
