Master-Debater131 Posted March 13 Posted March 13 (edited) Whats probably so fun with the shutdown trap is just how obvious it is. This isnt that dumb 4D chess crap that Trump says, its as obvious a trap as you can get. Its easy to see whats going to happen when Democrats spring it as well. Trumps going to use his megaphone to blame them, but shortly after that DOGE and others will call out how "Essential" Gov employees still have to go to work. Which will lead to the obvious question being asked "Why are there non-essential government employees?" From there its a pretty straight line to working on eliminating any government employee who isnt "essential". Thus reducing the size of government, and virtually eliminating entire departments. If Democrats wernt so blinded by pure rage and hate they would be able to see this. Fetterman does, but the rest of the party is too blinded by hate and rage to see the trap they are walking into. The obvious out for Democrats is to start to throw a ton of amendments at the bill, have them all shot down, then vote to advance it anyways while saying "we tried". Gives them something without teeing up brutal attack adds for next year in swing state races, which Democrats now have quite a few they need to defend. Or, the other option, is that Trump simply lets the Government stay shutdown for months. Gov employees will eventually quit when they arent getting paid, and the entire bureaucracy would collapse in on itself. Essential employees have to show up and work, but they dont get paid. People can only do that for so long before the bills come do and they may need to change jobs. Edited March 13 by Master-Debater131 1 Quote

Dark_Cloud_Overhead Posted March 14 Posted March 14 https://www.politico.com/news/2025/03/14/trump-doj-speech-prison-opponents-00231438 This speech was just so much awful that you just can't count the ways. It included calls for the lawyers who prosecuted him (calling some of them out by name) to be imprisoned, labeling news networks that are unfriendly to him as "corrupt" and "illegal", and several minutes of praise for his favorite judge Aileen Cannon, which included a blatant attack on free speech saying that simply criticizing her and other judges he likes basically should be illegal and that people should go to jail for it. Ignoring the hypocrisy of course of how many times he's attacked specific judges himself. Sad thing is, most of this was really nothing all that new or anything he hasn't said in one way or another before at his rallies. It's where he was spewing all this crap from that was most notable. It's just a constant pushing of the line of people's perception of what can be considered tolerable behavior. Every day. Every day just a little bit further. That's how he does it. He makes the people around him accept one indignity after another, till the ones supporting him are willing to look the other way at just about anything. It took a little while, but we're pretty much at that point already now. 4 Quote
