Calling it. Tell everyone I named it.

Are you in for some bad weather? It’s getting down to 9 on Friday. We don’t know what to even do with that in Atlanta. We’re treating it like it’s snowing, which it isn’t. I’m gonna be a baby.

I’m only about 2 hours south of Atlanta. Lows in the teens and wind chill below zero is expected this weekend. No snow, though (I hope).

My plan is to fortify the area around my nesting spot with blankets, after that I will set out to find you so I can use your head to kindle the first flame and bring warmth back to the land

Yeah, sposed to be 3 tonight here too.

Kinda wish I had took off this week instead of for my birthday but that really was never an option....

Anyway, it'll be fine as long as the no snow thing pans out down here

It was -33'F here this morning. I think it had warmed up somewhat and was only about -23'F when I walked home. Snowed all last week. Still been snowing on and off all this week despite it not supposed to be doing that this week.

When I go to bed, it's a nest of blankets and eventually the cat wedges herself in somewhere. The colder it is, the closer to the pillows and my face she gets. :D :D:D

8:37 pm - -4F, real feel -27F.  The wind is supposed to really pick up tonight & last through 6pm tomorrow.

Edit: just looked at the latest storm warnings and there's one for now through 10 pm tomorrow and one for now through 6 am Saturday.

Temperatures are supposed to upswing out of freezing, like 38 today and 50 tomorrow, just enough to get the remaining ice off my driveway. Then we get another storm over the weekend.

the warm weather worked, but the rain/snow started already before the temps dipped below freezing (in about an hour) so all horizontal surfaces gonna go right from wet to freezing

We were supposed to have a high of 3F, but the most we got was -3F.  Wind Chill started at -37F, we're at -29F now.

It took from 6 am to 2:30 pm for the furnace to bring the temp in the house up 5 degrees.

I had forgotten to partially shut the vents upstairs and open them fully in the basement.

I went out to clear the sidewalk and refill the bird feeders and found a dead bird at the front door.  The cold was just too brutal for the poor thing.

It's killing me but that's why I didn't fill the feeder at the start of this. I'd normally fill it and call them in so they can fill themselves but I don't want them getting blasted into the side of the building in the gusts and freezing in a drift if I can't see them from the window to save them in time.

-22'F right now. HEAT WAVE!

My water is back as well. Tonight is the final night of below freezing temps for at least a week, but I live near the boundary of whats considered west Texas Just inside the high plains. Dealing with 120 degree highs and almost year long droughts are supposed to be our thing not fucking artic scale blizzards and subzero temps. We're not out of the woods when it comes to another crazy ass blizzard either. The one I'm thinking about that hit in like 2016? It was in February.

Yeah, let's go with that...

on a serious note - do not heat those pipes, let them warm up slowly, or you risk cracking it.

I've been scared to take a hot shower but I want one so bad. None of my faucets had running water since thursday night, but the only exposed pipes are the main water supply and the front/backyard faucets to my knowledge. Todays temps really werent bad and about normal though. I think it just dropped below 30. Yeah It's 29 outside right now.. How bold do you think I'd be to take a hot shower?

because I'm not sure I'm bold enough.

The run from the main to the house is usually buried below the freeze line.  If your worried, you might check what that is for your area, then see if the city your in puts the pipes below that.  If they're lower, then the feed to the house & the water heater should be fine.

You're probably right. I just don't even know where the freeze was. My kitchen sink went first then the bathroom sink and bathtub, but none of the pipes I have access to where bulged or seemed frozen of course so it either happened from the outside in blocking water supply or pipes I don't have access to froze. I really don't know shit about home maintenence though, and I don't need another hard lesson a week before the end of the year. I'm going to figure this shit out one way or another though. xD

Thank fucking god that cold shit ends tonight and we go back into the 50's. I'm very grateful that there were strong winds that dried everything up before the temps went to single digits. Georgia cannot do ice storms. This is the first time I've ever had to consistently drip the taps all day and night for more than 3 days though.

SAME. I know several people who didn’t and their pipes froze or burst. We aren’t built for this.
