Is melted ice cream soup?

This is stupid and it's obviously a shake....but now for the one that gave me pause.

Do you round up or down when tipping...

No first off, this only applies if you're the anal-retentive kind of dick that uses a tip calculator, which that alone was damning to find out....but if you're tipping tip and your percentage comes up to say $7.45, would you give them 7 or 8 bucks.

I was told it was ok to round down because the change is an insult....so I'm like just leave 8, but apparently I'm wrong....

Just looking for other opinions

I hate tipping though because a lot of scumbags steal tips to pay the workers they have off the books and I don’t understand how in every other universe if you don’t have the money, it’s don’t get the thing, except in the service industry. You can underpay your workers and guilt your customers into paying the salary that the owner should be fuckin paying. No one says they shouldn’t open that business it’s always “if you can’t afford to tip at least 18% don’t go out” not “pay your fuckin workers or don’t open that restaurant”

If it means that I can eat it as a meal without anyone giving me crap for it, then hell yes melted ice cream is a soup. Crumble some cookies in it instead of crackers. :P

As for tipping, I don't use a calculator app. My fone is potato. But when I am in a tipping situation at a restaurant, I'm fairly confident in saying I round up and tip higher than I probably would if I was being a jerk and using a calculator app.

1. shake shake.

2. depends. i usually tip by whole dollar amounts to make it easier for me to add up in the billing.

My method is simple....If I got shitty service, they get 10% and tha't super ewasy to calculate....If it's good, then I do 20 so i just double the 10 and round up the change.

So, a follow up since we're still here....Has there ever been a situation where you just didn't tip at all....Not because you couldn't....but strictly because the service was THAT bad.

I tend to always leave a couple (legit couple) of buck just because "I guess you did bring the food to the table" but if you ghost me after that, or make other tables a priority just because you assume they'll tip more, I'll stiff ya....Well, I'll just give you 2 bucks.  I can't really think of just stiffing someone.

I round down as long as the tip is still over 20%.

According to Philip J. Fry, Bender knows how to make Ice Cream Soup. If we're assuming there's actually such thing as ice cream soup, then it is a bowl of melted ice cream.

Also shakes aren't completely melted. Ice cream soup is like you got yourself a bowl of ice cream then let it sit for a half hour before you touch it. Or put it in the microwave long enough to have the same consistency as milk (which shakes are thicker than).

Round up the tip.

I think the only thing that would make me not tip is if I've been sitting for like 20 minutes after I've been seated and I still haven't been brought a menu or a drink, or if it has been 20 minutes since I've been brought the menu and the server hasn't come to take my order yet.

Oh, and also, 200 HUNDRED DOLLAHS FOR A TIP CALCULATUH!

Also also, if this is a thing, I'll eat my hat.

"Oh yeah, I'm a server in a restaurant, which is notoriously one of the lowest paying jobs in the entire western world, as well as one of the most frustrating dealing with entitled assholes all day, but don't patronize me with your fucking change."

Also also also, don't the servers have to split the tips with the kitchen workers? No one would be insulted by change if they have to split the tips multiple ways.

No never have I not left a tip even if I got less than great service it might not be a 20% tip but I will leave 15% at a minimum. We all have bad days. I can’t see not tipping at all.  The server would have had to smack me in the face with a plate for me to not leave a tip

Yeah a lot of places have it where a percentage of tips go to the back.  Some places don’t allow you to go home with your tips. You have to pool the tips and you get your share  at the end of the week. Real scumbag stuff that’s why I NEVER leave tip on credit card. Cash only so the server can do whatever they want with it.

In nyc at least servers make $15 an hr allegedly. I say allegedly because it’s real convoluted the conditions where the owner actually  pays it and I do believe they can include up to a certain amount in tips towards that $15 an hr wage. So essentially, in nyc, service industry workers pay their own salary

is it common practice in nyc to not tip? i know i heard that in europe you dont tip for the same reason since the owners actually pay a living wage. i am in agreement with the sentiment of this is fucked up that the owners here are subsidizing the wages of their employees on us. but almost everywhere i go here it is expected.

i havent encountered a situation where im withholding tip money, but it doesnt mean i wont do it. i guess if they were ghosting and rude on top of it then i could see me not tipping.

You tip in NYC and it’s gotta be at least 20% now to be considered an ok tip. It’s getting out of control

depends where in Europe. I think England has tipping France doesn’t at best you round up in France because of what you said. They actually make decent $

yesterday was the first time i made sure to only give 10%. why, you ask?

because nothing says shitty fucking service like not being served.

food and drinks were brought out by runners, that were already trying to cover their own sections.

left some to go boxes and a dirty napkin on the booth chair above my head, and then expected me to use that. (which i already had to track down another server to get me the to go boxes)

worst fucking service.

That begs the question of who gets what when tips are distributed.  Not only is the tip system somewhat unfair to patrons by asking them to subsidize the restraunt's payroll (instead of building the proper overhead into prices), is a completely opaque process that doesn't particularly reward good service or punish bad service.

I round in whatever direction gets the plus-tip total to the nearest even dollar. For example, if $7.45 is a 20% tip for a total of $37.25, round up to $7.75 so your plus-tip total is $45.00. Or round down to $6.75 for a plus-tip total of $44.00, if you think they deserve a dollar less.

and that was exactly it. i knew she would have to pay out the bartender, or they will make your life hell. and apparently this server has already jilted. (of course i don't even know if this practice is still happening.)
i know that the busperson, was also the runner, but not in this case, it looked like other servers were running, so i KNOW they wouldn't see a dime. so, i'm hoping the above practice is still a thing.

I'm sure that part hasn't changed, but with credit cards it's difficult to tell when the manager / owners are stealing from the pot too.
