Putin: "Stick to the timeline!"

Ukraine is really doing some great stuff these days. Theyve started to push back the Russians on a few fronts, and are taking out some high value targets. Multiple Russian AAs have been blown up in the last few days. If Ukraine can keep that up they may be able to start using air support. Throw in teh F-16s that they should get sometime next year and we could see a pretty dramatic swing in this war.

Theres also reports that Russia is about to conscript another 450k men. If true thats another sign that they really are in deep trouble.

Chinese media outlets this week shared a new geographic map from China's state-owned standard map service that shows Russian territory as part of China.

The map, which is said to have been approved by Beijing and was released by China's Ministry of Natural Resources, comes as Western observers have speculated that the relationship between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping has become strained.

...

The 2023 geographic map indicates that Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island on the Amur River is part of China. Russia and China disputed claims over the island beginning in the 1860s until the two nations agreed to divide the territory in a 2008 treaty, according to the Russian business news outlet RBC.

Whereas the agreement gave the western part of Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island to China, the standard map service shows the entire island as Chinese territory.

This is a translation of a recording of a phone call from Ukrainian Intelligence to the confidential number for the  Ministry for Emergency Situations of Russia in the Pskov region High Command, where the attack on the airbase was occurring:

R- "Confidential hotline of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Russia's Pskov Region Directorate."

UI- "Hello, good day."

R- "Good day."

UI- "There are some explosions heard in the city, what's happening?"

R- "Yes, there's a plane on fire at the airport."

UI- "I see, did it crash into the plane?"

R- "Uh-huh!"

UI- "I understand, just one, or how many?"

R- "One."

UI- "One... well... I'll try the second one, I'm guiding (drones) here. Thank you very much. Glory to Ukraine!"

Ukrainians - we'll take a bunch of scrap metal and turn it into a weapon.

Russians - we'll take a bunch of spare tires and put them on top of our planes to protect them from drones!  Apparently not realizing that tires burn really nicely.

Reading both pro-Ukraine and pro-Russia takes on the current state of the war, there is a lot of triumphant "We're winning this war and our enemy is getting completely destroyed" talk.

Like, no you are not and no they aren't.

It seems particularly delusional as the war settles more into a stalemate.

The Ukrainians retook Avdiivka and raised a huge Ukrainian flag by launching it with balloons.  The brilliant occupying Russian troops opened fire at it, alerting the Ukrainian forces to the Russian locations, which the Ukrainians then trained their fire on.

Apparently, this is not the first time that the Ukrainians have successfully used this ruse.

Today at the UN -

Russian Representative Vasyli Nebenzya attacks the PM of the Republic of Albania Edi Rama (current acting President of the Security Council), asking why he was ignoring protocol and allowing Zelenskyy to speak before the council, almost but not quite hinting that Zelenskyy was not a legitimate leader.

Edi answered back in a "matter-of-fact" tone that he was most certainly following established protocols and that if Russia wished Zelenskyy not to speak, then Russia should end the war.
