I mean if you want to edit video they're cool but beyond that it's overpriced as fuck.

That's so poor people don't get their poor on them. It's a feature. Not a bug.

You're basically paying for a limited af PC that edits video good and has a silver apple on it. Fuck Apple.

Before they abandoned their strict design principles I'd say there was some value to things being nice, neat and optimized but they don't really care anymore. And there is something appealing to me about a company having complete control over it's hardware and software even tho I also like the anarchy of PCs and androids.

Lately the only stand out thing I really like about apple is that they won't unlock your devices even if the US government wants them to. That's pretty cool

i never really had anything apple until i had no choice but to buy an iphone: (the pixel 4a got delayed and my phone was dying. Samsung was too expensive and there were no other androids that were compelling). there are some things about it I like but there are a lot of things about it i can't stand

Yeah....keep telling yourself that. I've had this one for 7 years.....and it still probably runs circles around your shit. Enjoy that.

if Macs still ran on POWER, then maybe. But at the end of the day you're still on x86 like the rest of us.

Anyways, I've been a Mac user for about 5 years now. I definitely agree with the argument that it's overpriced. But other than that, I have no complaints. At the same time I'm not one of those "Fuck Windoze, Macs all the way!" people either. I do like how I don't ever have to pay for new OS's. And they're not forced updated either. A notification pops up that an upgrade is available and you can download or cancel. Or just ignore the notification, but that'll end up with the upgrade happening on its own eventually.

I don't care about editing videos, but GarageBand rules. Free recording software that's intuitive. Yay! And fuck Ableton Live Lite. Tempo changes are such a cluster fuck on that piece of shit. Tempo changes on GarageBand are nice and simple.

I love how thin this laptop is. I don't know if Windows laptops come this thin and yet wide too, but at the time I purchased this I'm pretty damn sure they didn't.

I love how typing accented letters like in niño and touché are so easy now. The only way I new how to do that on my windows computer was to open up fucking Word, pick what menu to get to special symbols and comb through them to get to what I want, select it, copy it, go back to whatever forum I was on and paste it.

One thing that was really hard to get used to at first was when a desktop icon is selected, and you press the enter key, it doesn't open the file / application, but rather it enables you to rename the file. That drove me fucking crazy because the whole time I was a windows user I liked to navigate folders / files by using the arrow and enter keys. But the trade off that renaming them is easier now, I don't have to right click and select a menu item, or get the right cadence of that double click where it's not too fast to open the file and not to slow as to register as two separate single clicks. And because of the weird fucking names people give files they upload to the Internet, quickly and easily changing file names is a great trade off for having to double click an icon to open it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To be fair though, I have like zero experience in Windows 10, so for all I know some of these features that were once Mac exclusive maybe true with Windows too, I don't know.

I hate Macs and would happily see them all wiped from existence, but the tech enthusiast in my doesn't like seeing perfectly good hardware getting destroyed (referring to vid above of Mac getting shot).

I fucking loathe apple, and how they have some of the most braindead fanboys on the planet. They're probably the most anti-consumer company on the planet, going to any length to ensure that they don't have to do shit for you, and will find any and all reasons to not honor things like warranties, and for some reason people still go and buy another Mac/iphone/whatever even after getting fucked in the ass with no lube by them. I also detest how they've gone to great lengths to lock down their platform, both hardware and software-wise as much as possible. I remember some years back with Louis Rossmann on youtube, him being the guy that repairs Apple shit on youtube, him having a business dedicated to that. He's shown in quite a few of his videos that when it comes to the macbooks, those laptop versions of Macs, the way Apple wires them up on the inside, the mousepad, keyboard, webcam, and like 1 or 2 other things are all wired up together in a way where all it takes is one of those things going back and you have a mac that won't turn on or access your computer.

Yup their built for shit for brains that do nothing more than browse music and social media for the most part. You can also make them decent music production computers, but meh. Literally anything nonstandard such as running command line os, pushing performance for various reasons.. literally I just don't use mac since more affluent tech people even say as much while giving mac/apple the occasional 1 win on some aspects.. I think that's the only one win they can get.. User friendly without a lot of need to configure shit yourself...if you arent trying to use the machine for a sophisticated purpose and reconfigure a lot of shit..

Because if you are it's easier just to not buy a mac. 🤨

The best argument for a mac is pretty much music production. When I was younger I worked at a Walmart with this one black guy that did music, him telling me about how "it's so easy to drop a beat on a mac". I've seen a fair amount of folks on the internet that mainly do music production, them using macs. Also the band director for the high school here has a pretty pricy Mac instead of the shitty desktops all other teachers use (our band kids compete on a national level). When it comes to video editing though, Macs are good for their simplicity, but I've heard many folks say when you're talking about more complicated tasks, PC is much better and has more features.

As a tech enthusiast I really hate how Apple (aside from Sony and MS with the consoles for obvious reasons) has the most locked down platform, both hardware and software-wise. Especially with the hardware side of things, them very much so against the right to repair. Also the lengths they'll go to to make their hardware as non-serviceable as possible, them typically soldering down the ram and cpu. As with how cpus in future Macs will be ARM based, manufactured by them and no longer from Intel, that will definitely lock down their platform even more. The way I was telling a buddy of mine earlier today, lets say you were out of warranty but your ram or cpu went bad, you could just buy your own and plop them in there, but you sure as shit can't do that when they switch to ARM cpus, since they'll be the only ones making them. Which means you'd either have to pay for an out of warranty repair, or be SoL and told you need to buy a new one.

Following up on that post, I despise Apple, never used or owned any of their products. That said though I am curious to see just how well ARM based processors can compete against typical x86 ones from AMD and Intel.

Realistically I see Intel and AMD ones still being superior, but for the tasks Macs are considered better for I think Apple will be able to make the ARM based ones work for them where they'll be so very optimized for those workloads where it won't matter... that said though if someone tried doing tasks one would do on a Pc like gaming, I see the ARM one definitely not holding up so well, despite Apple wanting to make future macs more capable of running games, wanting developers to make games for their platform as well.

Ipods and itunes got me I can't lie. I got salty when they started Iphones though..  and to be fair their debut was awesome, and I'm sure they have some fair phones.. Def. not fair prices though. Pretty much everybody that's toted a 1up Iphones have on android/google phones is an easy do it yourself thing or add on for the android/nonIphone side and it saves you hundreds of dollars..

Just no. 🙃

I use iPhones,  but I’ve had miserable experiences with their desktops and laptops.

Using Apple for doing college assignments on-campus felt like it took twice the time because you had to play by Apple’s rules if you wanted to publish this file and convert that file. There’s a dire lack of customization that makes it horrible to try to continue off of a document you were doing on a Windows computer back at home or the library.

The laptops seemed like a luxury our highschool had, but every time the cart came around for classes to borrow laptops, half of them were either broken or lost their battery charge within 15 mins. It’s there where one of my English teachers called them “Crapple” because of how it was like winning the lottery to get a laptop that worked.

Honestly I think the majority of folks that get iPhones are either people in their late 40's or older, that aren't that good with technology and an iPhone was their first smartphone, so trying to switch to and learn to use an android is too different for them. That's how it was for my step-dad and a few other older folks I know. I do think iPhones are something people that have money to throw around get, but even with my aunt and uncle who together probably make over a hundred grand a year have never owned or bought iPhones for them or their kids, them always using android. My 73yo grandma that lives with them is a bit tech savvy, able to handle phones and such better than people think elderly folks can, and she's always used android. A friend of mine that I work with is a year ahead of me in seniority so he makes close to $1300 every time we get paid, and yet money burns a hole right through his pocket, he was still paying off the first iPhone that cost a grand, and just recently he decided to switch to the iPhone 11, so now he has another grand he needs to pay off. For a guy that still lives with his parents (though pays a couple hundred a month in rent) and doesn't own a car, somehow he manages to have less than $40 in the bank by the next time we get paid.

You never heard of ALT codes?

You hold down Alt and type 130 on you number pad to get é and ALT+164  to get ñ.
Sure it's a bit to memorize but the option is there.

never bought a mac, because i don't enjoy giving all my money away at once. although i will gladly build a windows PC for $1200, and edit the fuck outta some media and play all the games.

we have a pack of ipads running wild through the house though. the boys have a lot easier time with them than they do android tabs because it's harder to screw up an ipad by being curious and poking around in settings.

Why did this whole thread get DF'd?

There was a fight. I missed it too. They deletes the good posts. I don't get why edit it and move it to DF. Either way is a solution by itself.

Distinct Lunatic was being a pussy. Called me a homo, and then reported me. Yes. You read that correctly.

He didn't call you a homo. He just said that stupid "no homo" line during one of his long posts

Is this the same thing the warning thread was about? If so I'm still confused why this thread stayed in FFA for hours and then got moved here.

Not that it really matters. lol

I'm suspecting that since we got a new booty with powers, he's just trying them out...He'll get bored soon enough.

I housekeeping. Someone else moved it. I was fine with people arguing about the pros and cons of Macs vs PCs on the open read board.

To topic, I don't really have any super issues with either. I learned on the ancient MacIntosh with the floppy discs [ passed a computer class by basically coding a lock on my disc that the teacher wasn't able to get past to make sure I was actually doing the work :D ] . I remember the whole 'blueberry' thing. They were good for internet things and typing up reports for classes. I prefer PCs currently because I'm used to them and they are usually much cheaper than anything bearing fruit. I have some variation of Windows 10 going and other than it being a little bitch about downloads on occasion [ and a recent download that borked the sleep mode so bad I had to disable the quick start program ] , it does what I want it to do.
