I got a second generation ipod nano maybe 2005ish? My friend had one and it seemed neat.

Then I never took it out of the box until I got a summer gig in 2011 doing data entry for 13 hours a day and they literally told us to bring in music to stay sane.

So I took it out of the box and plugged it in and immediately got a recall notice that the battery was more or less a bomb, and that they'd replace it. They sent me a sleeve to mail it in a they sent me whatever the current gen ipod nano was. It was half the size and held twice as much storage so it seemed like a win.

After that job I've probably used it less than a dozen times when I remember it exists right before I travel.

All in all probably an understatement to say I've always been behind the curve on this stuff.

I have one on the night stand that runs on my Sony alarm clock radio/cd, but the battery is toast so it doesn't function as an iPod anymore - just a music storage device for the clock.

I haven’t used my nano in about a hundred years. I used to have an iPod touch (jail broken), when I used to have Android phones. Then I switched to the iPhone and I don’t listen to music on it anymore 🫠

I still use mine, but I'm trying to get away from it.

My big problem is finding anything that can replicate a feature of itunes that I use extensively. In iTunes, I have the option/capability of telling it custom start and stop times for every track. An absolute blessing for trimming out excess silence, live audience clapping, intros, etc etc. And when I move that music to the ipod, it remembers those settings.

I've since found MusicBee, capable of the same settings, and just generally seems a nicer music library tool... but putting that music on my phone (android) won't actually remember those settings (although I think I might be able to force it by having it essentially create a new file with the truncated times.. maybe).

Still using an ipod touch that's kinda coming apart at the seams (poor repair job). And I went out and bought a backup that's still new in box when I heard they were discontinued.

But, if I can ever find a way to get my mobile music library to work how I want, I'll finally be free of it.

I only us a portable record player when I travel.

I carry a double speaker boombox on one shoulder everywhere I go

Thing is massive and takes about 20 D-cell batteries to power, but God damn does it go well with my wrap around sun glasses

Careful with that thing. A boombox is not a toy.

I got a portable cassette recorder with stereo microphones.

My boombox has detachable speakers that I have hooked up to the portable cassette player in order to play tapes without having to wear headphones or drag the entire boom box to other rooms. It's like Dr. Frankenstein got drunk at a Radio Shack.

Also, Cracky's record player is one of those Holly Hobby ones. Calling it now.

It's one of those with the bell and a handle that you have to crank.

I haven't touched an iPod in years.  I only ever owned one (the second generation iPod Touch).  My phone became my PC for several years, not including my Steam Deck, until I got this laptop.

I had a few Creative-branded ones, both a small flash memory one and a bigger one with a hard drive, way back in the mid-2000s or so. Before that it was my bitchin' portable CD player. I used them a decent amount back then, but even before they completely died I just didn't bother. Truth be told I don't really listen to music much at all, unless it's flipping on a local radio station in the car.
