do living humans use standalone iPods anymore

I can’t speak for other humans, but I think the last time I used my iPod (which I admittedly no longer own) was at least five years ago, maybe longer.

I had a zune tho ....Jeeze, I was still in MS so that was around Katrina because that was all i had and my DS for a while...so 2005ish

I got a second generation ipod nano maybe 2005ish? My friend had one and it seemed neat.

Then I never took it out of the box until I got a summer gig in 2011 doing data entry for 13 hours a day and they literally told us to bring in music to stay sane.

So I took it out of the box and plugged it in and immediately got a recall notice that the battery was more or less a bomb, and that they'd replace it. They sent me a sleeve to mail it in a they sent me whatever the current gen ipod nano was. It was half the size and held twice as much storage so it seemed like a win.

After that job I've probably used it less than a dozen times when I remember it exists right before I travel.

All in all probably an understatement to say I've always been behind the curve on this stuff.

I have one on the night stand that runs on my Sony alarm clock radio/cd, but the battery is toast so it doesn't function as an iPod anymore - just a music storage device for the clock.

I haven’t used my nano in about a hundred years. I used to have an iPod touch (jail broken), when I used to have Android phones. Then I switched to the iPhone and I don’t listen to music on it anymore 🫠

I still use mine, but I'm trying to get away from it.

My big problem is finding anything that can replicate a feature of itunes that I use extensively. In iTunes, I have the option/capability of telling it custom start and stop times for every track. An absolute blessing for trimming out excess silence, live audience clapping, intros, etc etc. And when I move that music to the ipod, it remembers those settings.

I've since found MusicBee, capable of the same settings, and just generally seems a nicer music library tool... but putting that music on my phone (android) won't actually remember those settings (although I think I might be able to force it by having it essentially create a new file with the truncated times.. maybe).

Still using an ipod touch that's kinda coming apart at the seams (poor repair job). And I went out and bought a backup that's still new in box when I heard they were discontinued.

But, if I can ever find a way to get my mobile music library to work how I want, I'll finally be free of it.

I haven't touched an iPod in years.  I only ever owned one (the second generation iPod Touch).  My phone became my PC for several years, not including my Steam Deck, until I got this laptop.

I had a few Creative-branded ones, both a small flash memory one and a bigger one with a hard drive, way back in the mid-2000s or so. Before that it was my bitchin' portable CD player. I used them a decent amount back then, but even before they completely died I just didn't bother. Truth be told I don't really listen to music much at all, unless it's flipping on a local radio station in the car.

I have a new computer and a very old computer which i couldnt import my acct from old to new because it's too old so now all my music is still on the old computer except also my ipod so recently i booted it up for the first time in yeas but i also dont use my phone to listen to music i just dont listen to music when im not home
