National Divorce isnt anything new. Its been floating around for a while now on various parts of the internet. Conservative blogs and liberal subreddits bring it up fairly regularly, usually when something political doesnt go their way. This may be the first time someone as high profile as MTG has mentioned it though.

The entire thought of it is dumb as hell. Its some fantasy world where the Red and Blue can simply split in some super awesome way thats simply not realistic.

Can't wait until the divorce and the entire western seaboard is under blue control, along with a $50 billion agricutlural product from California alone.

Where will Packard get his sushi rice?!!

The reality though is that it's not just a state-by-state divide, a lot of it is an urban/rural divide. So hypothetically splitting up the states wouldn't make everyone happy, it's a lot messier than that.

I do think this sucks for people in red states who don't agree with this nonsense and lack the means to leave. They are suffering because the GOP has manipulated the voting districts and accessible voting for years to maintain a majority. They could suffer because the rest of their state has lost its god damn mind.

This is a consequence of the media pushing the idea of "red" and "blue" states for decades.  Makes everything seem cute and neat and like there's some kind of clear division when in reality people's beliefs are quite a bit more messy and complicated than that.

I say that as a "blue" person who lived in "red" states almost all my life.  There were plenty of people like me (and the reverse too, "red" people in "blue" states).

At any rate talk of secession is stupid at best and dangerous at worst, and is not the kind of talk we need.  I really can't take it seriously when the topic comes up, because I don't think most people who suggest it seriously, GENUINELY understand the implications of what they are suggesting (because that would require historical knowledge as well as awareness and acknowledgement of the ugly human consequence of population upheaval, economic collapse, and potential war).

The neocons are allied with the neolibs on Ukraine so they're traitors or something.

I believe this is the “No True Scotsman” fallacy.  “The only real Americans are the ones that think how I do and act how I do.”

In that mindset, I kind of think recently the best way to troll the MTG types might be to just casually and consistently refer to them as "fake Americans" from "fake America".

Their identity/persona is so wrapped around their America purism that it just kind of cuts to the core as you point out.

Wonder how conservatives would feel when they find out that they'd have to write a new Pledge of Allegiance and change the name of The United States to The Divided States.

Texas has a lot of untapped oil and gas.  It can be the first independent state in a long time that accepts things other than the petro dollar.

Oh yeah, I'm sure they won't miss any of their federal subsidies or all the many many national stores that will pull out so they don't piss off the rest of the country. So smart. So wow.

Good, that means they’ll have plenty of money to pay Californians for their $12 eggs… as in per egg.

History has already shown that Texas isn't able to be it's own country. It already tried that when it fought for independence from Mexico because Mexico dared to abolish slavery. They couldn't support themselves back then, they definitely couldn't handle things alone now [ coughshitgridgoesfartcough ].

So, red states need something they could use for money.

And what would that be that the rest of the planet would accept as currency?  Or are they gonna create a new cryptocurrency?

you say this like it’s so easy to create a currency that catches on or maintains any type of value.

besides if a National Divorce ever happened (it won’t in our lifetime) you act like the remaining US wouldn’t sanction the shit out of them and get ally countries to do the same.

They'll replace the Constitution with Matt Walsh TikToks about how fertile 16 year old girls are and why we should arrange their marriages.

Or just start breeding their own chickens

I want to really hammer this one. Who is going to breed the chickens? Farmers? Why would they want to breed chickens? Out of a patriotic duty to the nation of Texas? Nah they need incentive. Which would be subsidies. Which is what the federal government already does. Which is often accused of being socialism. Wow wild. Texas already becoming what it left. How sad.

If you're talking about each home having its own chicken, how would that work? Would they have to buy it from a chicken farmer? What if the chicken farms don't want to play ball? They force them? Sounds very authoritarian to me, bud.

Bro you're thinking way more deeply about this than any secessionist ever has.

Who needs to think about things like economics, or how to feed your population?  Sounds like some elitist ivory tower woke shit to me.

MTG complains about the lack of civility claiming a mother and son duo attacked her in a restaurant.

This is the same woman who stalked David Hogg, when he was still a teen, right after he survived a mass shooting, to heckle him with a gun visibly on her hip. The same woman who heckled the President during the SotU.

no peace for her
