Fuck, I just realized I got it wrong too.

I forgot the 'directly' the first time.

EDIT: Also you would be wrong about that assessment. 😞

Well, I would have had to relearn a lot of basic words if I didn't have the privilege of being born in Cali and going to elementary there before moving to the south.  I'll never forget my uncle asking me to get him some "batrees" out of the drawer when I was little.....

He wanted batteries.

Do you pronounce cot and caught the same?

Mirror and nearer?

Poor and pore?

Merry, marry, and Mary? (very affected for an American to pronounce these differently)

Or rather, I should say does mirror and nearer rhyme? Or do you pronounce serious and Sirius the same?

Oh....That makes sense now.....

I should really stop smoking this shit....Anyway,  I had to say it audibly and it seems I say "murr"

Pretty sure I don't use nearer ever and say closer....I mean, I'm sure I have used it, but can't recall an instance right now.

I'm not sure I get the connection between how we pronounce these words and telling the Virgin Mary she's gonna have a Baby Jesus.  Would she have refused if Gabriel had failed to enunciate properly?

ANT

WAH dur

LAN kuss tur for the English city, LAN-KASTur for the one in OH.  Likewise, LEE muh for the Peruvian city, LIME uh like the bean for the OH one.

Kuh RIB ee un or Kare' uh BE un   I really use them interchangeably.  I think it may depend on the flow of the sentence it appears in.  Or maybe the first when it's an adjective and the second for the proper noun?  Like going on a Kuh RIB ee un cruise to the Kare' uh BE un.

OW ur

New OR lins  Rarely slip back into New Or LEENZ.   Sometimes NAW linz, affectedly.:)

Grew up with herbz, but now usually say erbz.

I wonder how many people say "oil" as "ool," or if it's just a regional thing restricted to my area.

question why can we pronounce “the” as

th-ah and thee and it means the same thing...and are completely interchangeable based on context...

example:

im going to th-ah mall

vs

im at thee mall
