Elon Musk’s X obtains $44bn valuation in sharp turnaround

So much for running it into the ground. X has completely rebuilt its value and is now worth the same as what it was purchased for.

Paywalled. What exactly do they attribute to it making up what it lost and more than doubling its initial value? Did it go up every time a user said the N word?

I'm sure it's a coincidence that it happened after Musk was given a position to cut funding to everything he doesn't like.

I just want to point out that this is literally not even snark, this is just by far the most likely scenario.

That seems perfectly legal and not at all fraudulent.

This is the exact same thing that Drumpf has done - have a property that goes to shit, claim to have sold it at a loss for the tax benefits, really just 'sells' it to some other company that -surprise- he's the sole owner of under all the fine print. Rinse, repeat. 100% fraudulent but it takes an auditor with an actual spine and balls AND money to go after him since he sues anyone who says anything bad about him.

Conspiracy theory time!

What if everything he did and he’s doing was to clear the way for this bizarre and most likely illegal shuffling of debt? He’s much less likely to suffer any consequences now, and he can rid himself of the albatross he turned Twitter into.

Legendary investor Warren Buffett has announced that Berkshire Hathaway will acquire Tesla for a staggering $1 trillion in cash. The 94-year-old “Oracle of Omaha,” long known for his disinterest in tech stocks and electric vehicles, reportedly contacted Elon Musk directly to make the unprecedented offer.

“While I’ve publicly maintained that I don’t understand tech companies, I’ve secretly been driving a Cybertruck around my Nebraska neighborhood at night,” Buffett reportedly told investors on an early morning conference call on Tuesday, April 1.

Perhaps most surprising is that Elon Musk has agreed to remain with the company, taking on the newly created role of “chief meme officer” while Buffett will personally oversee day-to-day operations.

This just means they finally understand having him out in the front of the cameras day in, day out is getting to be really bad for them. He'll simply move back into the shadows some, but I fully expect he'll still be there with his money, pulling the strings for as long as this administration lasts.

60-40. It'll really depend on if he even has the money to do anything anymore and/or if his own growing k-fueled paranoia allows him to even remain in the US.

Drumpf hates losers and hates sharing the spotlight. Husk is now losing record amounts of money, lost an election that he was funding heavily [ including that lotto which...turns out was rigged because both of the 'random winners' just happen to work for the gop in some capacity ], and could be losing at least one of his companies if things continue.

I'm also guessing his kid wiped more boogers on things.

Musk isn't going to step out into the shadows. He wants to be recognized as a genius. He loves the attention. He spent $44 billion on Twitter so he could have friends that would tell him nice things about himself. He uses props on stages in front of crowds because he loves the attention. The dude is a narcissist and isn't going to step back. He is going to distort things and cry a little bit, then try to get attention again.

It's bad for Trump in that he's tied himself to someone just like him, except the narcissism turned up to 11. I think there is a bit of fear as to what would happen if Trump didn't act delicately and E.M. started going after members of the administration to his followers.

I think the damage may have already been done.  It seems odd to me that Trump has given Musk as much leash as he as, especially given how others in a position of power in his admin have been quickly and unceremoniously dropped when there was any chance of them upstaging or taking credit from Trump in front of his base.  Part of that is the obvious distraction that Musk provided while Trump worked his way through his unpopular tariff program, and I suspect that's why he announced Musk stepping back in May.  However, I think part of it is that Trump might be scared of what Musk could do if provoked.  Of all the people Trump has dealt with, Musk is the only one that has a legitimate cult-of-personality, and that makes him a wildcard.

It's no secret that Trump has been attempting to build on his own cult ever since his first election, and, for the most part, it's been stagnant - the people he counts has his most ardent followers tend to be extreme ideologues who have a conditional relationship with Trump.  At least before the election, Musk's cult was populated by people who were solely tied to his image as an innovator, entrepreneur and all around wealthy guy - the kind of people Trump would have relied on in his Apprentice days.  The problem is that Trump is competing for fans with a guy who has a tighter and more recent hold on them, and there is always the possibility that, should Trump go after Musk, Elon could readily mobilize his deranged fans against Trump.  That's not to say that Trump can't or won't turn on Musk, just that he's perhaps more aware of the risks than his hubris in other areas might suggest.

It may well be that Trump is waiting for Musk to damage his own base further in pursuit of Trump's goals, but that's not a sure thing.  Trump can't simply let Musk take the fall for his own bad ideas without there being blowback if and when he does nothing in the wake of Musk being sidelined.  He's in a something of a pickle thanks to his own incompetence.  Should Musk decide he wants another role in the government after his DOGE run ends, Trump will have to react in his typical manner and start finding ways to denigrate Musk publicly, and he runs a real risk of losing his own cult in the process.

Well, yeah that's why I added on "some" there. I think you're right and he's still going to be out there on his own and continue tweeting as much as ever. Just I don't think they're gonna want to have him seen in White House meetings or out on the campaign trail stumping for candidates anymore.

When it said Buffet has been “secretly driving a Cybertruck at night” that was one clue it was a joke.  He probably hasn’t actually driven a car himself in the last 40 years 😆
