Here in IL, we all basically get the leftovers from Chicago and Cook county in general. The majority of our education budget goes to them. The school district in my city is eligible for around 65 mil a year, but we'd be lucky to see half of that.

Our highways and road infrastructure is also shite. We've had the same politicians in office for 20-30+ years, resulting in a case where it legit does not matter how many governors get ousted and locked up in prison, the problem will always remain. I'm looking forward to paying the Netflix/online streaming tax, as well as the gas tax which was doubled and now tied into inflation...

considering IL's solution to our debt is to raise taxes and create new ones to tax us, I'd imagine it's only a matter of time before they do something asinine like that.

there's a reason why the state of IL (along with California and New York) are having an exodus. Hell, I live in southern Illinois, nowhere remotely close to Cook County, in a small - medium sized town, and it's still a case where our property taxes are pretty shite. A guy I work with has been trying to sell his house for over a year now, him moving a couple cities away to a much nicer and cleaner place, and the property taxes for the house he left is around $350 a month.

I live in texas

I really would like to go down there one day, that said though I'm a bitch when it comes to hot weather, so it'd have to be in the Fall - Winter months for me to be able to go down there.

Also I'm under a winter storm warning

Same, stay safe out there.  So many people cancelled their plans today and it didn't even start until about 1 pm.

KS?

I once drove 4 hours to visit a friend there

It was seriously the most depressing drive I've ever been on

It was just flat, dead grass, and then some flatness with snow and I got all excited

DUDE! Seriously....driving up to there is depressing. No real payoff, either.

West Virginia. It is consistently rated at the bottom of every health, wellness, or quality of life ranking in the United States unless Mississippi takes that spot on the list. Then it's typically next to last.
