Topic came up with some coworkers, and it was interesting to hear their answers.

Mine was *NSYNC with Smash Mouth as the opening act. I was about 10, I think? 5th grade

When I was...I want to say about 15, me and my parents saw Spin Doctors perform at some local festival. That's the first one I can remember.

Never been to one. At least outside of school concerts.

Really?? Well, are there any bands that you’d like to see in concert?

My sister got her boyfriend tickets to slipknot for his birthday, i went with.

I don't really like slipknot, and i was afraid of breaking my glasses so i took them off and put them in my pocket.

We were near the back of the crowd so i couldn't see the stage very well.

Otherwise it was like somebody playing a cd really loud.

Meh.

Hmmm, I think it was Guns n Roses and maybe Megadeth(?) at Alpine Valley.

I don't remember who exactly opened, but the lead singer got pissy with the audience so we tore up chunks of sod and threw it at him.

Axl actually apologized to the audience and they played an extended set.

Good times....

Oh! They sing Two Princes, right? I think they have another song I know...I’d have to look.

Oh yeah, those concerts can get crazy! I’ve been caught in a couple of mosh pits and it’s definitely not for me...

I probably would have stayed toward the back too, honestly.

Sorry it wasn’t the best experience for you!

Lol! Sounds like he deserved it!

Really cool of Axl and GnR to do that! I bet that was a really good concert!!!

Reel Big Fish and a bunch of other ska bands like Buckcherry and shit. Creed was also there before they got big, I don't wanna tell the whole thing but they had things thrown at them and were booed off stage, then came back and performed to silence. Reel Big Fish closed, it was awesome.

Yeah, he kinda deserved it. I guess in retrospect it was kinda of a 60/40 thing of him deserving it and us being assholes. :D

Alpine was a great facility though. Even the lawn seats were pretty good, pretty cheap and as long as it was nice weather you could go and enjoy a show. I mean the group I went with all mowed lawns in the neighborhood that summer, so we saved the cash and got the tickets and had enough for food and shirts, so go us. Getting to unleash teen angst through vandalism was a bonus I guess.

Super Bowl of Rock I - Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Foghat, J Geils Band, Climax Blues Band - June 4th 1977

Oh cool! Foghat came to town a few years ago and I tagged along with the parents to the show.

When I was a kid, my favorite song was Centerfold. I think I just liked the music because I was 100% too young to understand the lyrics 😂

My brother-in-law loves Reel Big Fish! I think he goes to see them pretty much every time they are playing here

I'm not super familiar with them myself. I have seen Buckcherry, though. They were good!

Jeesus .... how lame.

Also I think Maroon V opened the show.

Lol! Not lame! 😋

John Mayer isn’t really my cup of tea, but Maroon 5 isn’t bad! I like a lot of their stuff!

Lol! Well, the only reason I got to go to *NSYNC was because my mom won tickets, otherwise I never would have been able to go. And she made my uncle take me. He stood there with his arms crossed the whole time...I don’t think he was as impressed as I was 😂

I do interestingly remember a girl who played a song for the soundtrack of princess diaries because it was a really good song. lol I just can't remember the name of the song.

Simple Plan :/

No one ever believes the why.....they were my sisters favorite band at the time and my parents weren't willing to take her or allow her to go alone....

Because of her I also went to a Veronicas concert where I saw The Jonas bros right before they blew up....they were talking about how they had some awesome opportunity coming up

Wow, that must have been quite a show for you to follow them to their next one! That’s cool that you were able to do that! ☺️

Hootie and the Blowfish, Saturn Family Picnic in either 99 or 2000.  It was pretty dang cool.  They covered a lot of songs and Hootie forever ruined "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" for me because he sang "Don't tell me no lies and that thing's too big for me anyway."  That's how I sing it whenever I hear the song.

Aaron Carter played at my alma mater not long ago.

He took shirtless selfies in one of the public restrooms.

Never been to a proper concert. Only ones I ever went to were during high school. One was a few local ska bands playing outside a skate park. Those fuckin dances man.

Other one was held at a church but it was like screamo stuff my buddies wanted to see so I tagged along. Decided to headbanging through one band's entire set just because I wanted to see if I could do it. I did. Their lead...screaming man signed a piece of a TV they broke earlier in the set and gave it to me. I threw it away at home. Then my neck hurt for like a week.

Ugh, I’m jealous! We used to have one of his concerts on VHS and we played it all the time! My parents recently got to see him and said he was amazing.

we're only talking national tours? not like, "so-and-so, the city's most popular cover band" right? first concert would have been bush back when they did their 16 stone tour (mid 90's?), but i gave my ticket to a friend because i was not excited about going to that show. never did regret that pass. took my girlfriend to see collective soul a couple years later, maybe '98 or '99. it was a decent enough show, but i wasn't really into that band either.

I feel bad for laughing because I know he’s struggled with drugs and stuff, but man...

I guess I haven’t really kept up with him much. I just remember his stuff from when he was little. “How I Beat Shaq” and his “I Want Candy” remake. I also remember him being in an episode of Lizzie McGuire... 😄

How did you last an entire set?! I can’t even get through one song without getting a headache!

Doesn’t necessarily have to be a big named band! Just whoever was your first show ☺️

Bush is ok, but not someone I’d prob pay big money to see, so totally understand. I’m only familiar with one, maybe two Collective Soul songs, so I’m with you on that, too.

i saw boat loads of local / bar bands growing up. my parents were always volunteers at local events. we're talking semi trailer stages, beer gardens, $300 performance charges. kids with bedroom amps and practice drum kits. stage lights made from paint cans. it was actually pretty awesome.
