enad
My beast is from 2009. I keep it behaving like something approximating a modern machine by maxing out the RAM and keeping the graphics card routinely updated. I don't do a lot of high-end gaming so that's adequate for me. If I ever found myself needing a better processor I'd probably just buy a new machine.

PhilosipherStoned
This current one I've had for two..pushing three years. I don't clean it enough, and after getting drunk off a four loko I woke up to find it had froze. Just an ordinary reboot, and here I am. Living in Texas witth two hairy ass animals I can't just use simple air duster.. Everytime I buy it anyway I always huff a good deal. I need an air compressor meant to handle the task because I honestly have been done with that shit forever. It's just so tempting.

SwimModSponges
5+ years, most recent upgrade was a graphics card last christmas. I'll probably need a bigger hard drive soon, and yeah; I don't clean it enough either. But otherwise it's a pretty nifty beast.

Top Gun
Built my gaming rig two years ago. Everything's good, though the GTX 970 doesn't measure up to the newer generation. I'll drop a new card at some point when I start hitting performance bottlenecks. Also have the 10-year-old shit Dell that received what upgrades it could over the years and shockingly still boots. Sieg67
Not even a year unless you count the hard drives and graphics card. RAM, motherboard and processor got switched out a few months ago after one of our drivers gave me a bunch of parts.

fuggnificent
Might just be overheating. I'm guessing you've even opened it up to clean the dust out. nah... i broke the charging port and took it to this computer store to get that replaced. it started freezing after that.. i know this is stupid but theyre the only computer repair shop i know so im taking it back to them to fix the freezing .. even tho i suspect they caused the freezing to get more money out of me. i used this laptop when i worked for xbox and had like 10 programs running on it simultaneously while i took calls and had ZERO problems... took it to the computer store and now i can barely run 3 windows without it freezing
Sieg67
That's doubtful. Charging ports are an easy fix given you have two hands and a soldering iron. I don't know how they could have possible made your computer freeze unless they installed something on it. In which case you should be able to find the culprit. What I like to do is look for suspicious programs that were installed on a certain date.

fuggnificent
Are you honeslty saying that a laptop is better than a pc tower? no. heck no. id love a tower. but i really dont need one. i can accomplish all thats necessary on a laptop. i love the versatility of tower computers, though. its just when i had to buy a tabletop computer, i thought it was a tower but it was an all-in-one. wacky1980
my oldest computer turned 10 in february. bought it as a day 1 vista release item. i'm still eating that shit sandie, but i actually modded it to the point where it wasn't a total lemon. it's my torrent box and part-time media server (when the nas is being a bitch), and it dual boots gnome for kicks. also salvaged an old pc from the bank that's still running xp, that's probably approaching 10 years. it's just a backup machine right now. got a refurb'd m4600 laptop from dell about 3 years ago that was probably new in '11, but it's still a bit of a beast since upgrading it to win10. that's my wannabe-dj control center and also what i use for graphic design. finally, a 4yo chromebook from acer that still handles most of my casual web browsing, when my mobile can't cut it. i've got half a mind to pick up a gently used server and virtualize my windows machines + add dedicated media, web, and email servers, and use the dell laptop to remote into them on demand. but that will also require some electrical / network upgrades in the house, and taking advantage of the fiber being laid thru town next year. i'm down with a 100mb symmetrical link. I have a i7920 @ a 4.17ghz OC, Evga's best classified board from that generation, and the fastest ram i can use with that processor. The rest - Video card, cooling, case, psu hdds and ssds are all from 2015-2017. Evga on almost everything. I max everything out at 1080p still. Sometimes I run into issues with my cards only having 4gb of ram but I'm waiting for the new arch to come out that lets you stack gpu memory before I upgrade my motherboard situation. PhilosipherStoned
I've a;ready forgot most of the componets in mine.. I remember it has an i5 core. Gigabyte Radeon R something graphics card. Some kind of Msi-AMD motherboard A terabyte harddrive from whatever the build guide I used had listed.. and 2 sticks of ram.. I can't even remember how many each one was. I think it was 4 each for a total of 8...
