I get the frustration over Toonami, but how is having all of two shows that are a decade old at this point and running them every other week for God knows what reason in any way better?

Naruto From The Beginning on Toonami 2025
Top Gun replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Real talk, where the hell did they even find a 20-year-old SD episode tape? -
I'm not sure I'll bother watching this thing: I was never super-interested in the Fateverse to begin with, and from the myriad of nerd arguments I've seen about it, no one seems to agree on what to watch first. There was an ANN feature on the whole franchise a couple of months ago, and that at least recommended starting with the DEEN adaptation of the original Fate route, then watching Unlimited Blade Works. Either way apparently the first episode of UBW is a prologue that's common to all three routes, so maybe I'll at least give that a look. That being said, the more I think about the setup for this block, the dumber it seems. So you're going to air one show one night, then repeat it a few nights later, okay...but then you're going to switch to a completely different show the following week, so that anyone following one of them will have to wait two weeks in-between episodes? That's incredibly fucking stupid. Just show an episode of each one per week like a normal-ass channel.

I mean why would they bother selling exclusive rights to a network that even by zombie cable standards presumably has far fewer eyeballs on it than [as] does? That makes no sense from a business standpoint. But honestly CR blocking out [as] from show acquisitions makes little sense to me in general. The block isn't directly competing with CR's service in any real way now.

My first thought is that I didn't even think I got this channel, but apparently it's way the hell up amongst the 3 or 4 duplicates of each channel that Xfinity has on the lineup for whatever reason. My second thought is that I don't see this lasting for any particular length of time, and I also highly doubt that them broadcasting MHA episodes that Toonami aired all the way back in 2018 will have any effect on whether or not they air the next season.

This...could be better. Only saving grace is that I don't have to tune out for a half-hour in the middle of what I want to watch like I do now.

Or wait...there might be something else that exists besides this shorts project? No one seems totally sure. Either way there's no more right now.

There is no season 2 of Lycoris. There was something like a one-off shorts project announced, but it's not a full season.

Mike Judge and Greg Daniels lands original series for Adult Swim
Top Gun replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I know nothing about it other than the few promo clips I've seen and didn't even remember that Judge was involved with it, but it definitely has a unique look if nothing else. -
Naruto From The Beginning on Toonami 2025
Top Gun replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I've probably said this a half-dozen times before, but it's incredible to me how most of the main characters in this series are introduced as completely fucking awful people. I legit can't think of another shounen where the people I'm supposed to be cheering for are this unlikeable from the start. Those Shippuden filler episodes when they jump back to pre-genin times and show the characters paling around crack me up because, no, they clearly hated each other's guts back then. Hell, even this first OP is a lie, there's no point in the entire series when Squad 7 all act that nice towards each other. -
Damn. Thank you for making that weird little OVA I watched on Saturday nights one of the greatest things I've ever seen.

Sailor Moon Toonami Main Block Discussion
Top Gun replied to CorbeauKarasu's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Not sure if I'll bother with this run since I just watched all of it on Rewind, but I had so much damn fun with it. I'm several episodes into R, which is rare for me because I suck at watching stuff on my own. -
Uh...hi Barney.

So here's the thing for me. I seem to be an extreme rarity now in that I actively prefer appointment-viewing linear TV over a big streaming smorgasbord. I discovered a long time ago that I absolutely suck at getting around to watching things unless I have some sort of externally-imposed schedule, whether it's a TV broadcast or a watching group with friends. I don't pay for any streaming services, nor do I have any plans to do so until I'm absolutely forced to (probably by sports). I have watched literally every anime series that's aired on [as] for the past 20 years, so for me sitting in front of the TV on Saturdays is something I do without having to think about it. If/when that vanishes, it'd be the end of something very significant in my life, and I want to hold that off as long as I can. When it finally goes for good, I could see myself sitting down on a Saturday night to create my own little block (with blackjack! and hookers!) out of my huge backlog of shows. All of that being said, at this point the decisions the block makes don't faze me much on an emotional level. If the schedule sucks like it does right now, I'll think "well that's lame" and just tune in for what I want to see. Even when we're in a downturn there's usually at least one thing I'm excited about watching. Like I probably never would have chosen to watch Mashle on my own, but I'm loving the hell out of it, so that alone is enough to make me show up every week. Even the reruns can be fun...like I had almost no memory of Blue Exorcist despite watching the whole thing when it first aired, and honestly I think I short-changed it a bit. And I know shitting on Demarco is the new national pastime, but besides the (mostly forgettable) co-productions, I thought he mentioned a few years ago that he's not even the one in charge of show acquisitions for the block anymore. Or maybe I'm thinking of something else he doesn't do now.

Sakamoto Days to get Netflix adaptation, premiering January 2025
Top Gun replied to Jman's topic in Anime & Manga
He presumably has much bigger and better-paying work between games and Critical Role stuff. A lot of older LA-based voice actors have largely moved out of anime. -

I only got like 5 episodes into this on Rewind before they skipped an entire arc for no reason. Now I'm stuck back at the beginning again. Wheeeee.
