That fucking background.

I don't want to crap all over this, because I didn't think it was actively bad or anything. It's clear from both the content itself and Sketch's interview that the creative team is enthusiastic about it and put effort into it. And obviously they didn't make the call on where it's airing, because even amongst the "crossover" series that have aired on the block in the past, this one above all others feels like it's much better suited for CN proper. But all of that being said, this isn't doing a whole lot for me so far. I won't go quite as far as Jman, but this feels for all the world like it was made by someone who saw a few super-popular shounen series when they were younger and wanted to make one themselves really badly. It's a checklist of tropes I've seen used a hundred times before, and at least so far there isn't much setting it apart. And while I don't claim to have much of a grasp on what The Youth are into these days, I have to wonder how much its target audience even cares about professional wrestling. And I'm sorry, but you chose to have your main character escape her ordained future on...Accounting Island? Really?

I feel like the majority of people out there are dogpiling on this far more than it reasonably deserved, mostly by jumping on the "lol episode 2 looked like ass, this whole thing is shit" bandwagon. Do I think it was great overall? Absolutely not, but at the very least I think it was decent, with some truly fantastic moments sprinkled throughout. It certainly wasn't the irredeemable garbage that some have made it out to be.

Honestly I thought that was a really solid last episode. They finally let things breathe a bit and moved at a reasonable pace. The visuals weren't quite up to episode 1, but they looked pretty good overall. Putting the production issues aside, if they either had twice as much runtime or didn't try to cram in what I'd assume was every single bit of the original manga, I think it would have been much better off. Still managed to freak me the fuck out on numerous occasions, so overall it was a good time.

Well that was...certainly a finale. Out of all the shows I've watched, this was surely one of them.

I'd assume they're rerunning Blue Exorcist there with the expectation they'll air some of the new seasons next year. Unexpected pick-ups, but I've heard good stuff about Mashle.

Probably less than 1000 right now.

...where are you finding that list of "animation directors"? It doesn't even make sense, there are several company names on there. -

I consider myself to be a reasonably intelligent person. I've watched plenty of good mindfuck shows and had a blast trying to piece together what's going on and what will happen next. But it's hard to think of another series I've seen that's as perpexingly, willfully incoherent as this one. I said it elsewhere here, but on a moment-to-moment basis I've often found it impossible to figure out how each scene connects with each other. Which version of Rick is that? Are we in an alternate universe? A flashback? A flash-forward? Is this just going on in that VR helmet Morty was wearing? When was his waifu an alien, and when did she look human? Who knows! I keep thinking at some point that it'll try to tie some of this disparate nonsense together, and a couple of episodes ago it almost seemed like it was trying to, but nope it went straight back to the plot puree again. I figured going in that I'd be at a bit of a disadvantage due to never having watched the original series before, but not only does it seem like it's relying on some super-deep cuts from that (which is an odd choice if you're trying to chase a new audience), but that even if you are super-familiar with the original it still makes no sense. So...who is this for exactly? -

If a streaming service shuts down, and no one knew it existed in the first place, does it make a sound? -

The dub is scheduled to air on Thursdays at 12:30, I guess following in Rick and Morty's footsteps. -

That was TITS. Absolutely incredible. Everything I hoped it would be. I was sitting there jaw agape for half of it and kept yelling out "oh what the fuck." If they needed all of those delays to produce something that looked that fantastic, then it was worth every minute. Can't wait for the rest. -

Terrifyingly close to 40 now, and I'd sleep well past noon on days I didn't have to get up for something if I let myself. Then again my natural state is nocturnal.
