Insipid Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 I was watching After Midnight, and they had a magician doing a seance magic trick. He was pretending to summon a deceased celebrity. Several of the audience members wrote a name and put it in a box. The name chosen was Joe Biden. Politics aside, it completely ruined the vibe, aa obviously he's still alive. I was just as pissed as the magician. Quote

Doesn’t apply to musical instruments: you have to at least know how to play, even if it’s really badly. Also, most people won’t know what a gold top is worth unless they watch Antiques Roadshow. [classic swim] Posted November 3, 2024 Posted November 3, 2024 The numbers from my fortune cookie didn’t win me the lottery. I was told not to waste money on one out of good intentions, and that’s exactly why I did it. If I had listened and not spent the 4 dollars, the universe would have rigged it so the fortune cookie numbers were actually worth a shit. I just wanted to face the loss head on without giving the universe the satisfaction of saying “fuck you” to me. 2 Quote

Jman Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 (edited) If humanity survives all this, big fucking question mark, there's going to be a chapter on how not regulating internet misinformation from the start and re-establishing the Fairness Doctrine during the Clinton administration led to the bullshit we're dealing with now. Vaccine denial, climate denial, assuming Trump gives a single rat fuck about an Arkansas dirt farmer's grocery bill... You know why the New Deal worked before anything that didn’t help a billionaire buy a new mansion or a yacht was seen as communism? Because it was building actual infrastructure. Roads, bridges, plumbing, etc. We could have had that with an infrastructure bill for a green future, but no. The MTG’s hiss at anything that has the word Green in it, so we’re fucked. Insipid Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 (edited) On election night, I had chicken biryani, in hopes of America electing a Desi woman, Kamala. My Indian friend said her part of India, Tamil Nadu, is more known for sambar rice. I've had sambar rice before, but I just wasn't in the mood for it. The next day, my Indian friend jokingly said Kamala lost because I didn't eat the sambar rice. 😂😭 You know, typing this made me realize something that I appreciate so much about myself: I am a worldly person. I love the world. Edited November 9, 2024 by Insipid Quote
Jman Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 (edited) https://www.latimes.com/environment/story/2024-10-23/this-powder-can-remove-as-much-co2-from-the-air-as-a-tree If the idea of these plants works out, three dozen of these at scale, with about 2000 tons of the dust each where old coal plants used to be, let's see... .5 lbs of this stuff absorbs 48lbs of carbon which can be sold to corporations to put in sodas, beers, etc. So one ton would hold nearly 53 tons of carbon out of the atmosphere. We need to remove about 100,000,000,000 tons of CO2 from everything to even out. Essentially we'd need at least half a dozen to a dozen of these in every state in what used to be coal plants to successfully hit the carbon removal goal if it can be produced at cost. OK, if they get this working, and it actually works out at a scalable rate...we might actually be alright. Edited November 9, 2024 by Jman Quote
