Little help?

Anyone know where I can purchase old, used, or wholesale books.

The kids mother has opened another salon and this one is big. She's clearing out a reading/book selling area for clients to enjoy while they wait.

And of course I said I'd see what I can do, so since I know a few of you are avid physical media collectors, maybe you could point me in the right direction.

I know our local library sells old, used books. They will give you a big bag and you can fill it up for like a dollar. Not sure if your local library does this too. But it's worth a shot.

Well, this would be viable except I did leave something out because I didn't feel it was important since I am more expecting a link to a store or entity that deals specifically in stocking a place with books.....but I know the library wouldn't have what I need because what I'm looking for are kinda.... we'll say niche.

Is amazon too obvious? 😝 Sometimes books sold by the marketplace third-party sellers can be pretty cheap. Might be beat to hell, but the point is just for having people having something to read while they wait, not for them to actually own the books, so may be a good bet.

Amazon is retail, therefore expensive...it's why I need a wholeseller...I'm trying to stock a few shelves for purchase and a reading area with provided material....which the library idea mid had would work for that....but the purchase books would need to be new, in bulk, and priced to resell

What kind of niche?

Black....and not mainstream black, but since FFA isn't exactly teaming with negroes, I didn't feel that pertinent to my quest...I just need direction, but he'll I'm sure I'll find what I need later when I have time to do it ....I just figured o could get a few suggestions to shorten that journey a bit

Well, I mean this is an incredibly narrow search parameter.  I mean, it's easy enough to find African American booksellers, like this place.  Here's a link from Vroman's that lists nationwide independent stores.

This site lists distributors, but I have no idea how you get with one unless you actually start your own bookstore.

Well, since it's out there, what I'm looking for are wholeseller of things like the egyptian book of the dead, the historical accounts of horus.

Them maybe some soft cover Black erotica "because lonely black bitches love that shit" and some random reads that aren't quite so black because she has white clients as well, but she really into our history now and I like letting her exercise thatuscle.

I've gotten some used stuff really cheap - like less than $ 1 - on Amazon, but I was looking for specific authors and titles. Don't know how that would work if you were just browsing.

Actually Sorce is the one to go to, seeing as she's the only published author we know and she would know the different wholesalers and what books they provide.

That's why this is in FFA and not in df where she shows up like once a month

That'll do too.  She's into some witchy shit too, but I don't care about any of that myself....growing up in Louisiana, you just kinda get desensitized to the paranormal and occult

I never think about that since I've never been there. I'd probably love new orelans. Sad that I've never been thru

@DragonSinger

Y'all pick the one thing I'm terrible at. I've had to cut down on physical copies of books(only buy physical if I love something((Amazon out of laziness)), so I don't know what discount stores are still open since I only go looking for used for out of print books(usually manga) when I'm not trying to spend $200 bucks a volume. Black Erotica tends to be in Contemporary, which I read very little of, but I know enough about that genre that it's hard to find outside of big stores because they don't get much shelf space. Wouldn't even bother with libraries unless you know they got some black folks in there. Book Warehouse is still around, Ollies has cheap books, and you can do a search for 'bargain books near me' too. Oh, forgot about Goodwill.

Cook books takes up the shelves at the one by me too, but they actually had a decent amount of Romance and a few Fantasy. I don't think they had any too raunchy, but I was focused on something for my grandma at the time.

I was kind of thinking your publisher would who distributes books of this unique type.  I mean, Egyptology / Occult / Black Erotica is one hell of a niche, but there must be a distributor that's more likely than others to distribute that kind of stuff.

Best guess I have is a local seller of used books, or if you're near a decent sized city their local used book stores. Some of them can have themes, like there was one store this woman ran and mainly carried female authors, so you can get lucky that way too. I can guarantee you some black person owns a book store full of nothing but black authors but I couldn't tell you where in America this place is. There has to be at least one though because it's not that weird an idea.

Maybe a long shot but some activist might be able to help out just cause they may be aware of better ways to do this and like the purpose of the reading section.

I used to have books with a Gay Romance publisher, but they couldn't pay folks on time, so I snatched my rights back from them. The main problems with finding cheap Black Erotica or steamy Romance with at least one black lead in print is that several small publishers in general have kicked the bucket in the last three years, and several small book lines from big publishers have been kicked to the curb due to all the recent mergers. The physical book industry is a mess right now. This is why I'm working on a book right now to send to an agent.

Well, I mean you have been hinting about the dysfunction for years, so I guess it's no surprise.  Unfortunately, smaller genres suffer disproportionately when industries go through upheaval.  It may be that these genres end up being relegated exclusively to digital media.

My recommendation is to hit up a library or a book drive. If you’re looking for more wholesale needs, rather than retail, I’d hit up like an Ollie’s or Half Price Books. The latter will have some magazines, as well. You could always hit up some doctors’, dentists, or hospital lobbies for some magazines, too.

I am also thinking maybe someplace like bookoutlet.com or maybe thriftbooks.com. If all else fails, Amazon.

I dunno if they have preowned, but I’ve been looking for some books here since it supports local vendors.

https://bookshop.org

I guess I should clear some things up....the used books are just for reading while waiting.

But I was needing new books as well for resale, bit without being a verified book store, it's a bit harder to find exactly what I'm looking for....but I got some new leads from a friend so thanks

So I got 50 books on the way for resale, and a few things just to read around the shop.....I think my favorite acquisition is a black anime series built around ancient Egypt.

It'll likely suck, but I think it'll grab an eye or 2.

I'm kind of taking this on as a personal project...While it was her idea, I got excited doing the leg work....The selling part is gonna suck though, and probably where i start slowly bailing out.
