is it just buying or is it usage too?

Complete Bullshit imo

they're trying to pass a law here that would make it illegal to smoke on city property... anywhere on city property, which means if you want to smoke on the sidewalk in front of your house you're shit out of luck

Well, don't you also think then that if someone can go and defend his/her country and witness the tragedies of war at 18, that they should be able to drink at 18?

I get what you are saying though, and Christies quote is just straight up retarded, "By raising the minimum age to purchase tobacco products to 21, we are giving young people more time to develop a maturity and better understanding of how dangerous smoking can be and that it is better to not start smoking in the first place," Christie wrote.

They are citing the strain on the healthcare system that smoking causes, but it's amazing that they still won't even try and address PTSD appropriately.

Like any kid who smokes ever waited until they were legal age to start smoking.

Well to be fair, there are an awful lot of 18 year olds in high school. These 18 year olds can easily provide cigarettes for their younger teen friends/classmates if they wish. Raising the age to 21 I think would make it a lot harder for high schoolers to have access to cigarettes for this reason.

Its just like the masturbation stuff, but with more oral.

Not very often, but my homeboy is and odd case......Dude didn't smoke all his life and picked it up at 28 years old......I just looked at him like he's retarded.

i did say to raise the draft age to 21 also so i don't completely sound like a hypocrite because i do think drinking should stay at 21.  you can kill people if you drive and drink way too much, you're not going to kill anyone but yourself if you drive and smoke too much

18 is fine to serve in the military, it gives an opportunity to subsidize higher learning with the GI bill. Also, the draft isn't coming back, lol.

Anyways, their reasoning is silly.

people have to be allowed to make some dumb decisions in life. the people who smoke know the risks. if an 18 year old doesn't care then let him do it. not every 18 year old is dumb enough to pick up smoking just because their friends do it

A man who weighs 300 pounds is lecturing people on the strain their personal decisions put on the healthcare system?

That's right.  When somebody is old enough to sign legal contracts, sign lease agreements, be tried as an adult in court, get drafted, etc. , why isn't that person old enough to smoke, drink or watch porn?  Especially porn... at age eighteen, they are not old enough to buy the very same porn that they starred in?

I think preoccupation with determining what people can and can not put in to their own bodies is nonsense, and a wate of time. Raising age of smoking while we have youths dieing of heroine overdose on the strests every dat says alot about American priorities. Far too much emphasis on curtailing liberties to treat symptoms of an underlying problem.

I do think that this is another example of selective age group designations. Eighteen and can't smoke or drink, but can go to war and be prosecuted as an adult? It's so easy for our legal system to just pick a standardized age for no aparent reason, or scientific reason.

However, the other side of this is that I think it is reasonable to say that people that knowingly engage in hugh risk factor behaviors should not be insured against any related problems that are a direct result of that behavior. There is only so much social and medical resources available in any given economy or nation. I really wish there was more, but this is reality. People should be clearly warned when buying substances that are direct causes of cancer and disease, and should sign a waver of the right to seek treatment for free from public funds.

My whole philosophy on pretty much everything these days is that, behaviors and actions which have significant and direct impact on other people's rights, health, or finances is the line at whichurch the party in question's rights end and other's rights begin. This is imo the best philosophy on life, but is not lerfect. It is simply the most reasonable, logical, and equitable outlook on what personal liberty should mean as we move deeper into the 8th millennium of human history.

This will decrease the amount of teenage smokers. Raising the legal age and price of smoking has shown to decrease the smoking rate of teenagers. Raising the age/price isn't intended to get people to quit smoking (although a decent amount will) but to stop people from ever starting in the first place. Smoking is a public health issue and decreasing the amount of smoking among a population is nothing but a positive.

Let's make sugary caffeinated beverages 21+ too

Not ALL of Jersey is right next to Philly or NYC... and those areas smell like garbage.

the hell are you talking about? i will admit that Elizabeth is a dump. other than that, there's a lot of nature and great places to picnic. there's a reason it's called the Garden State

beaches (when Christie's fat ass doesn't close them), diners, way cheaper than the city and right next to it, great food. there's lots of things to like about it

Occasional hurricane that causes millions of damage?
