MEXobiologist Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 the tourist shit is rather underwhelming anyway. idk, i usually just look at things i can't afford, go to art exhibits, and try to get fat for the most part. find something fun, let me know cuz i'm going to visit my bro for 10 days late sept-oct and hes kinda boring. not cocaine and hookers tho... can't afford those either.

Sawdamizer Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 At any rate, where are you staying while in my fine city? It's a big place, so where you are depends on what great things there are to see and do. Well, outside LA.... Pomona.
PhilosipherStoned Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 You could inquire about the local :420: I've heard it's pretty good.. Also, 'ass blown out with food trucks'?
StarPanda Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Well, outside LA.... Pomona. Dam son I hope it's the nice part of pomona
Sawdamizer Posted June 7, 2017 Author Posted June 7, 2017 Dam son I hope it's the nice part of pomona Yeah it is... I was suspect at first but I checked it out.
scoobdog Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Well, outside LA.... Pomona. Well, let's see..... Pomona isn't that far out. You're right near Raging Waters, so you can take your board-short, beer-gut self to the water park to hit on pre teens. The county golf course, Mountain Meadows, overlooks the fairgrounds and the Speedway and offers great views of the Pomona Valley. There's a botanical garden, Rancho Santa Ana nearby, but that seems too pussy for you. If you like hiking, you're about 15-20 minutes from the hiking trails at Mt Baldy. If you like a hipsterish bar scene, I recommend my favorite hangout about a half hour down the CA-57, old town Fullerton. In particular, there's Hopscotch Tavern overlooking the Fullerton train station that has a full selection of whiskey and beer. I hang out there whenever I can. Disney is another 5-10 minutes down the CA-57 if you like paying a lot to be in a cattle call or you actually are a reeeeeeally die hard Disney fan. Nearby in downtown Anaheim, there's the Anaheim Packing District. Another 15-20 minutes from there (let's say an hour from Pomona) there's Old Town Orange and some great bars (Chapman east of the "Orange Crush" freeway interchange. Hit me up for specifics.
Mix Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 LA must-do list -crash at mulholland -join local protest -go to protest after-party -join the protest after party orgy -contribute to protest after party orgy mistake handling abortion fund -eat mexican food that's more "authentic" than anything you'll find in Mexico
new_disease Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 yes do food trucks we have a bunch of other kick ass food places too. check out Danny Trejos taco place. Trejos Tacos aside from that theres the theme parks, the Getty, Griffith Observatory
scoobdog Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 Well, outside LA.... Pomona. Almost forgot, for fun at the beaches, your best bet is Bolsa Chica State Beach. It's in between Huntington and Seal Beaches and its one of the last places that still have fire pits. If low rent amusement parks is your thing, Knotts Berry Farm is still a great deal and its about five miles due west of Disney.

Bouvre Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 My time in LA was for my thesis, scouting places where the cinephile character would go simply because of their use in his favorite films, so it was pretty touristy in its own way (though not many people flock to Koreatown to see/eat at a restaurant used in Chinatown). I stayed in a cheap and clean hostel in West Hollywood, and fell asleep to bucket drummers and a ripoff business that sold the idea of driving a Lambo and Ferrari to tourists by revving the engines, but some places/things that were cool: - People-watching in West Hollywood. Anywhere really, but there's a reason they're called Hollyweirdos. - Public transpo. Slightly limited by comparison to the size of the place, but very useful and cheap, and sometimes something odd and incredible happens. - Farmer's Market at The Grove - Look for "peephole cinema" installations. I found one in an alleyway behind a restaurant in Chinatown. It was playing an experimental film on loop. - Getty/LACMA/Museums in general. Also the Griffith Observatory. Barnsdall Art Park - Runyon Canyon. The kind of spot where lots of people go for a mild hike. Occasionally somebody famous is spotted during their morning run, but some cool sights at the top. - See a movie at New Beverly Cinema, at at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery Some people don't advise walking around, but I enjoyed doing it. I walked from West Hollywood to Little Armenia to Koreatown, and just saw so much interesting stuff.

scoobdog Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 Any recommendations for like weekend getaways from LA? Looking to take the Mrs somewhere nice.... spa, resort.... whatever.... she isn't a big ocean person, but I am... (I already booked my surf board for the plane ) Yes. Even if she hates the ocean, you can't go wrong with the St Regis Monarch Bay Resort. It's about as top shelf (and expensive) as you can get, but it's absolutely beautiful. It's in Dana Point at the bottom of Orange County. Palm Springs is the go to getaway for the rich and famous. But, with Indian gaming a thing, places like Marongo in Cabazon and Pechanga in Temecula (between Riverside and San Diego) are all inclusive resorts they are fine for a weekend escape. Something more historic is the Mission Inn in Riverside. You wouldn't expect anything nice in RTown, so it's something of a surprise if you're not familiar with it. The local mountains aren't much for resorting, especially in the summer. But, Lake Arrowhead is quaint. And, if you like cheesy, there's Solvang to the North, above Santa Barbara.
NaBarney Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 If she doesn't like the ocean then definitely check out the Salton Sea lake, it's a can't miss destination
