Your phone can be used to passively record audio and video to spy on you. Facebook was caught doing it for a while and stopped. Right now it's a big, biiig thing in the infosec industry. There's some shady apps recording your voice and datamining your conversations for advertising data. There's a shared office space I go to for security conferences once a month, and we're all required to lock our phones inside a Faraday cage while attending.
