Dark_Cloud_Overhead Posted Tuesday at 08:18 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:18 PM https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/24/us/politics/iran-nuclear-sites.html A preliminary classified U.S. report says the American bombing of Iran’s nuclear sites sealed off the entrances to two of the facilities but did not collapse their underground buildings, according to officials familiar with the findings. The early findings conclude that the strikes over the weekend set back Iran’s nuclear program by only a few months, the officials said. Before the attack, U.S. intelligence agencies had said that if Iran tried to rush to making a bomb, it would take about three months. After the U.S. bombing run and days of attacks by the Israeli Air Force, the report by the Defense Intelligence Agency estimated that the program was delayed less than six months. The report also said much of Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium was moved before the strikes, which destroyed little of the nuclear material. Some of that may have been moved to secret nuclear sites maintained by Iran. Some Israeli officials said they also believe that Iran has maintained small covert enrichment facilities that were built so the Iranian government could continue its nuclear program in the event of an attack on the larger facilities. Officials cautioned that the five-page classified report is only an initial assessment, and others will follow as more information is collected and as Iran examines the three sites at Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. One official said that the reports people in the administration had been shown were “mixed” but that more assessments were yet to be done. No wonder they jumped on the ceasefire declaration Trump threw out there. If this turns out to be true, we could have just boxed ourselves into a really bad situation. 3 Quote

_lost_username_ Posted Wednesday at 03:17 AM Posted Wednesday at 03:17 AM From what I heard, both Iran and Israel were needing to stock up on their offensive and defensive missiles. I don't think Israel is done with Iran and probably has the goal of regime change. I think they thought this may be the best time to strike and opportunities like this will diminish in the future. Reasons why: • If you buy into polls, the number of Americans who view Israel favorably has fallen below 50%. • Iran's strongest ally is stuck in a war in Ukraine & is not as able to back them up as before • Iran's proxies have taken a massive hit and have yet to regroup. I think the favorability with Americans may be the biggest worry for them. It may not have much of an impact on the next two or three election cycles, but as the demographic that supported Israel ages out of the electorate, the younger demographic changes and AIPAC's influence starts to receive backlash — it will probably begin to change. Probably not all the way to siding with Palestinians (if any are left) but to the point where they no longer receive American bombs. Where America goes, the Europeans will probably go too. I wouldn't be surprised if we see desperate acts against US leaders by the Mossad. Israel is worried. Netanyahu is also riding this opportunity to save himself and gain power by stoking ethnic nationalism. 1 Quote

PenguinBoss Posted Wednesday at 08:39 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:39 PM Just seems like the natural next step. If he's bombing foreign nations without authorization from Congress, why bother telling them at all? 2 2 Quote

PhilosipherStoned Posted yesterday at 03:25 AM Posted yesterday at 03:25 AM (edited) I watched this earlier... It does about the best job you can do of explaining the wartime powers act, and all the arguments both for and against POTUS being able to do what he did with Iran. The biggest bullet point I can take from it is that...MIGA. *has to face palm* is a sentiment that can and probably should bite POTUS in the ass in seeking to use the WPA and other pre-established legislation other presidents used to do things like your air strikes, bombings etc. Edited yesterday at 03:27 AM by PhilosipherStoned Quote
Dark_Cloud_Overhead Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Thing is he really does have congressional approval. The republican majority in congress have demonstrated they'll do pretty much whatever he wants at this point. They just don't want to stick their necks out and vote to approve of the stuff he's doing because they're afraid of it being used in a commercial come reelection time should shit go south. Their silence is consent though. There's only one question you have to answer really when it comes to the legality of the actions he's taken, and it's the same question I think he probably asks himself before he does just about every crazy and unconstitutional thing he does, and that's who's gonna stop him? Thus far the answer is obviously, in almost every instance, no one. Until there's a serious consequence for his actions and something does come to bite him the ass, he's just gonna continue recklessly acting on impulse and asking permission never. Cutting congress off now from intel is just another step towards the death of all truth and transparency, and that's the thing that's most concerning to me about all of this honestly. 3 Quote
