Perma Ban Club

I never got any infractions the first time around, but I did get perma'd twice on the NodeBB boards. I don't remember the specifics, but I think both of those bans involved politics.

First account: posting in the Dear Adult Swim thread two different times in the same night with a spoiler-filled question in the hopes they'd answer immediately after the  offending episode's TV broadcast.

The episode was the season 3 finale of Venture Bros., and the question was if 24 was really dead. Even though his flaming head landed right in 21's hands.

Second account: lying about being over 18 so I could use the private messaging function, which was necessary for a Death Note fanfic character submission happening on the boards. If I had known my character would be killed off after three chapters of their being present, I wouldn't have bothered.

Third account: linking to a site containing hentai imagery (without knowing there was hentai on that side) because I was worried an article I read on another website I knew was not safe for linking on the boards was right in that my computer could be remotely turned into a bomb.

Learning experiences.

Where does the part where you claimed Code Geass's (assuming that's what it was) 5:00 a.m. deathslotting was worse than 9/11 come in? Was that on a different board, maybe Toonzone?

Nah, that was ASMB. It was Code Geass, yes, and also Moribito. The "worse than 9/11" thing was just edgy middle-school frustration over the fact that, since it was airing in the Nonsexy Hour, I'd have to waste so much VHS tape on the comedy hours that came before when I did my nightly recordings - I often liked to put multiple nights on one tape - and didn't want to get up at 4 in the morning to set it up because it was inevitable I'd sleep in and miss a couple premieres that weren't guaranteed any reruns at that point.

I never got warned or banned over that comment, it just got deleted without comment. But the backlash towards my comment remained, a mix of anger that I'd say something so insensitive and disbelief that I'd actually say it to begin with. But Trunks378, the dude who originated the anime block discussion threads that bear his name, was not only the first to react to my statement, but absolutely livid about it, too. He outright said that he'd ban me on the spot for saying such things if he had mod powers, which would be what you're thinking of. If a close friend or relative of his died in the attacks, then I'd understand his rage; I wouldn't blame him for being so vicious towards me on that compared to most everyone else, who just went "Holy shit, did he just...!?"

But that too was a learning experience; to mince my words when someone makes a programming decision I really dislike. Luckily, nothing of the sort has happened since then to warrant such impulse.

Ah, okay. Funnily enough, tonight I was looking through old ASMB posts that got saved via the Internet Archive, and I saw that I posted an indirect death threat toward Obama that got deleted, but was preserved via a quote from Masquerade. Now that, I don't miss about being younger. Heck, my unchivalrous attitude toward politics leaked into the first few years of these boards. At least I'm mellow now, though it's come with the caveat that I'm not as freewheeling and irreverent with my posts.

I remember hearing about someone who got banned for making an arguably poor taste joke about 9/11 on the day, which honestly would have been funny nowadays.

I was banned on my account (KaptKrunch being my last and only worthwhile account, this one is for the person formerly known as Ted_Ballsacks that one of you banned on questionable terms way late for the s/n but who cares about that now)... anyway, I was banned on KaptKrunch for making a joke about some supposedly but very obviously not female user "not being my girlfriend"...haven't you guys seen me make this lame type of joke enough to realize its a joke?!?! No matter what I say or do before or afterwards ITS A JOKE! I didn't even curse or make any threats toward life or anything else? I guess in my lack-of-sleep-haze I forgot that you guys don't allow humor on these boards outside the scope of fart jokes. And yet, some mod chose to "take the side of ignorance/her side" in the matter and prove that being right means nothing...pretending to be a girl means everything. Yes, what I'm saying is that when you get a report from a poster who has done NOTHING but spam and flame Zenigundam in exactly the same manner you should ban that poster as well...unless the person he's reporting was spamming flames at him or bypassing your precious filter. And I did neither...but he/she clearly has toward Zeni, and I doubt he/she was 'punished' for it. This is so uncool guys. I just tasted victory on my front porch when I killed a HUGE freakin' cottonmouth snake with my viciously cool bushido blade, which I haven't had the pleasure of using in a couple of years. I was all hyped up and I thought...well maybe some fellow board nerds could appreciate the act of snake slaughter with a sword. Maybe I was wrong, maybe I'm lame, but regardless, I couldn't share my triumph because I was banned for being humorous. This is unacceptable. I know with the huge influx of people lately (I've seen it myself) that you guys have had to let a lot of crap slide by. There have been numerous flames and spams and other stuff that noobs have gotten away with and the only one I've complained about has been the one guy that keeps trolling me...still undetermined if it was my buddy or not. The point is this, why do you people go after an old board user who is sometimes/often helpful, but on some days just felt like being a little cruel/funny? In short, yes, my funny or opinion is worth more than some large font using, flaming because someone disagreed with him, trying to virtually 'hook-up' with some cyber sex, spamming noob (he was doing all these things from what I recall)...and you should not have banned me for that. I am so disappointed in whoever did this. It almost makes MojoRising's comments about a mod holding grudges seem valid. Did I **bleep** one of you off in the past and now you're the one trolling me? Was this your chance to make me pay? The ban was temporary...at least you were somewhat reasonable in that aspect...but its still crap. And yeah, I know I'm gonna get flamed for this...some board users are going to feel its their duty to pee on the drunk guy who just killed a snake and found out he has been banned for saying something funny to a worthless spamming noob. But think about this board user...you could be next! You may say something you think is funny, or speak your mind, get spam-flamed in response and then reported by a noob...and is the mod going to use common sense or take into account the fact that the noob was spamming and flaming when he reported you for saying your stale, old joke everyone has heard a thousand times... nooooooo...he/she/it is just gonna get their revenge/nerdlust/powertrip by hitting that ban button as quickly as possible. Even if MojoRisings theory of mod's abusing their power by holding grudges is total buttkuss...this was just wrong. So F'ed up man. I would ask you to remove the temp ban but I know that I'm just going to have faq and flames dumped on me by mods and users alike. Am I really this hated on these boards? A lot of people, mods included, tend to act like I've slapped their Momma. Can't you mods use some friggin' discretion instead of being used like tools by a spamming/flaming noob? I won't be mad about this for long...as usual I need to spit out dribble and then I'll cool down...but it just seems like we should all be throwing out a "zig-hail" when we log in or out of these boards sometimes ya know. I'm sick of this crap man. I wasn't being malicious toward anyone...even though that person obviously deserved MUCH worse than what he was getting. Those kind of people shouldn't even be allowed access to communicate with the outside world...let alone screw up an old board users account by USING a mod. Yes mod, you were used, by a petty, childish, desperate, idiotic noob. So if you have the capability of rational thought...next time you're disgusted by idiots being retarded on the boards, putting threads in the wrong folder, spam-flaming people for no reason other than the inbred genetic encoding in them (he was spamming/flaming everyone but that one girl, not just me), trying to have a virtual hook-up via text on these boards, or whatever...just remember, you make it all possible when you basically be the tool they assumed you were and bow down to their sick whims. For all I know, that might have been the same troll under YET ANOTHER s/n...I doubt it...but anything is possible...except for a mod using rational discretion apparently. Well this post has taken 3 minutes or so (you can tell by exactly how awful it is that it was hastily thrown together) but it has been just long enough to push me down into a slightly miffed level. I just don't get it... and for the love of whatever you hold holy...please don't come back here and spit faq in my face or something...even though I'm fairly certain I didn't actually break any rules. Just tell me who did it....and I know you can't admit if you really have a problem with me...but if you do, can't we take it up in some kind of personal message/email/IM service or something? I'll be happy to hear you out and then use cold, callous logic to crush your reasoning and probably give new vigor to your angst. Despite my seemingly haphazard, idiotic nature at times I am actually quite intelligent and have outstanding reasoning/debating skills. But I am dumbfounded by this ban...its just so F'ed up. Every time you ban someone on these ill-conceived grounds you just add to their mistrust of you and everything on these boards. I've wasted so much of my time putting on events and sponsoring [as] and the [as] boards....all free of charge...from posters around college campuses (yes, 2 major universities) to making an **bleep** of myself in a crude Meatwad costume at the mall and at several venues where bands were performing...to handing out fliers and even doing an obscenely well-done article in the university paper (it was noted and referenced in the Mobile Register as well) and of course most recently the handing out of fliers for the HC publicity ploy (I put those **bleep** things everywhere! I stuck them up at gas stations by the pumps, I put them on the ordering boards of fast-food restaurants, I put them on the boards at the college, I littered coffee shops and video game/digital media stores with them and so on) and this is the disrespect I receive in return...banned at the whim of a spam-flaming noob for something that wasn't even really breaking the rules when you use your brain to decipher the context. I might be a little drunk...and I might be strongly disliked by several board members and possibly a few mods...but I don't deserve any backlash for letting out 1/100th of what that noob needed to hear/see. I could've and should've brutally raped his fragile mind, but as I try not to do that these days, I simply made the same old stale funny I always do about being "a speedbump for evolution" ...my victory over the deadly, venomous snake has been tainted by all this...I'm gonna go drink another beer and hand the snake from the porch...maybe I should skin him...but hey, if I do, some noob will probably come by and try to cyber with it and when I slightly reprimand him with a bad joke the gestapo will come by, take my sword and my beer, and ban me from the porch for 20,000 minutes! Or 2,000 ....whatever it was....so lame. I'll probably get banned for this post...I'm not going to bother and look back to see how many mistakes I made or if its offensive and bannable so do your worst I guess...boy this dumb chick is gonna kill me if I get her s/n banned too...screw her..>I made these for her anyway and she can just rot for all I care. I'm sick of being nice to people that don't deserve it...and I work in the medical field so yeah...I get to save people all day that probably don't deserve to live...because they're probably on a board somewhere, spam-flaming like a noob and getting vets kicked off the boards by tooling it up with the mods! YOURE ALL TOOLS! Okay...I feel a little better...watch me come back and be banned on this s/n...If I am...I will hunt down and kill the rest of that snake's family...do you really want their blood on your hands? Think it over.. ha haaa...another bad funny...is that a bannable offense? : P

Everything. Mostly trolling. I might have the most—I don’t know. They should’ve just IP’ed me after the first dozen.

I’m reminded of the funniest story of someone else’s ban. He won’t be here to tell it. It’s a long one.

daREMONSTA, or Marvin, was a troll, but he was an okay guy. He never got really cruel or took it too far; he mostly talked shit about people on AIM. While rank was worthless to me and others, Marvin really valued his, so he’d toe the line. He really wanted to make OOTO, so when he finally did, he chilled out quite a bit.

There was this photo floating around AIM between me, Gnome, Vintage, Ryan, Poet, Marvin, and some of the other usual suspects of a clown fucking a midget. Marvin thought it was the funniest thing he’d ever seen. We’d all reference it in threads a lot, but no one had the balls to post it, until one day, when Marvin decided to really break bad.

Of course, I egged him on, you know? To me it sounded like he was going to deliberately throw away his username by posting clown-on-midget porn and that sounded funny, like a slight to the value people put on their rank. Go, Marvin.

After an hour or so of psyching himself up, he actually did it. He posted the photo of a clown fucking a midget. What I didn’t expect, though, was that he did it on a different account. Up to this point, Marvin had seen me getting banned and bouncing back with a very unambiguous fresh alt once or twice a week, so he figured that’s just how it worked—alts were disposable and the mods punished the username, not the user—but I didn’t have a main to ban. I asked him why he used an alt if he’s going to get banned on his main anyway, and his response was “WHAT.”

I had to break the news that the mods could parse usernames and IPs, and that he probably shouldn’t use his main for a while to keep it off the log. Well, the first thing he did was get on his main, and just about the second thing he did was let me know it was perma banned.

He made a new account and stuck around for a while, mostly to appeal his ban and navigate the stages of grief. After it was clear he wasn’t getting a second chance, he took part in some deeper trolling for a little while and hit the dusty trail.

daREMONSTA was the first (and only?) Owl perma banned.

i never got a permaban, but i did get a temp for trolling sarah_of_borg with a couple of other people and making her so mad she typed in giant red letters.

The big red letters were a borg’s most powerful tool.

I still have the heart, by the way.

I was def Owl when I got perma'd, I don't think they had any post-owl ranks yet but maybe I'm wrong

I think when I got it un-perma'd a year or two later it had the new 'swimmortal' rank

I always wondered why some had double kudo power & some didn’t. Thanks for finally giving me some clarification/closure. 😂

Some even had triple, but that was one off to certain people.  I think Duzi was one.

Me neither. And that was back when Glodson and I constantly vied for the top spot. Seems like that would have shown up somewhere.

But it not impossible that it didn't actually affect the count and was just something one random user had that I didn't interact with.

I don't doubt it could happen, but it was most likely a gimmick.  Now, Duzi was well known for her kudo weight.

I lost a couple names due to @Swimmod_Perseus not taking kindly to my saying westpark was running trains of fail in threads. (Cracky, it's not my fault westpark was that bad. I was just merely pointing it out.)

Oh, and tag trolling. That was the worst. (I mean I did it sometimes, but only to those who I felt deserved it.)

you’ll never guess who still lives at my house.

If this is a reference to who I think it is, I went to his birthday one year. Seemed like a nice guy when I met him, although I sort of regret going since I spent the better part of that weekend sleeping of a few bad insomnia streaks. I was a mess.

If not, ignore me.

I got permabanned for making a stupid joke that was based off of the Family Guy skit where Peter Griffin is found prostituting and he gets in the back of the car with Stevie and Meg. I said something like “the kids cost extra” and Nayru rightfully banned my stupid ass for that post.

Whether or not there was a chance of getting that account back, I definitely ruined it by having a whiny little meltdown in the boards and spamming Nayru-hate messages. (I created an alt called WhinyAce17 after that lol)

I still cringe to this day thinking about it.

I kind of liked the Kudos system for a little while...until I saw how elitist some people got over it. Like some number under your post means anything at all.
