is it temporary or are they gone forever?

Supposedly permanent, but they may bring it back with enough negative backlash.

It helps save face for larger companies who have the distinction of making widely disliked videos.

The main workaround I’ve seen has been creating a comment that acts as the dislike button. Like saying “Thumbs up this comment for your dislike”. Or Google plugins.

Maybe Netflix got real sick of people shitting on the Cowboy Bebop live action show . . . lawl

But for real my kneejerk reaction was "Now how will I know if a film has strong female characters a major deviation from the source material?"

What does YouTube want to do? Become an online version of North Korea?

More China and its hidden social credit system. There's more of a semblance of freedom there.

The button remains but the counter is gone, as is the ratio bar.  I get the same thing.  I think the posters still see dislikes in their analytics, but it's not broadcast to viewers.

Which makes it pointless.
