It's a plan suicidal people make with another person, for when the other person sees the suicidal person falling back into that mode of thinking. A lot of times you can't see it yourself.

I dont think its accurate to say people dont recognize they're suicidal. I can see someone not knowing they're getting overwhelmed by their depression. Its more to identify your supports and make a plan on how to access or contact those supports when the thoughts and feelings resurface.  In minors you safety plan with them and their guardians.

You eliminate access to firearms, sharps, and lay out a whole communication and supervision strategy

Every time I bring up lot lizards, all he says is “what?”  They’re going to literally have to tear his stained jumpsuit off of him before he figures it out.

Ok, from the heart here, don't write a novel. Not now. 

When I'm depressed, and I try to do something monumental or new, and I fail, it just makes me feel worse. What does help is doing smaller and/or more familiar things well. Maybe write some original short stories, maybe a couple of new video scripts (hint hint😉)...baby steps, ghostie. Accomplish a few smaller things, and feel better about yourself first.

I would like to add a caveat to this.  As a writer by training, i think it would be more accurate to say that it's a bad idea to be writing for any sense of an accomplishment.  He absolutely can write a novel as long as he doesn't expect it to be something that would ever be published.  In fact, most first novels aren't something to publish, they're exercises in how to put thoughts on to paper and to see what they look like.

no worries It been a idea i  been working on for years now  so it's not during some refining and stuff like that before I start and I'm actually doing a hold of series of videos on my YouTube channel about how you do world-building with realistic science fiction stop and some military stop because it is a piece of military science fiction @mthor
