i prefer eating at home.

I have found that our cooking is far superior to any food we can get out.

Including ethnic cuisine. Namely, Mexican, Indian and Italian.

I'm still making sauces and marinades and dressings.

So far, Ranch dressing, BBQ sauce, honey mustard, marinara sauce, spaghetti sauce.

Disco makes Hollandaise sauce, and jerk ketchup.

We have made butter and sour cream.

Just trying to make these things to prevent buying some mass produced stuff. Homemade is always better.

You just haven't found the right toaster oven.

I think it's more about giving myself food poisoning a couple times.

never feeling particularly ambitious enough to go out to eat (pre-pandemic), but we both are pissy, tired, and cranky after work so having to actually make a dinner also sucks

Both.  I enjoy cooking, but I have my favorite spots around the city.  Korean BBQ, conveyor belt sushi, and perfect aged steaks cannot be duplicated at home.  Yet.

I have yet to try Korean BBQ, but I hear it is awesome. I'd like to try it, then try to make it.

The shutdown has spoiled us in that regard, built-in excuse to get all sorts of takeout and delivery. Only thing that isn't spoiled is the bank account.

Before the pandemic we went out to eat by ourselves maybe twice a year then like once or twice a month on top of that when we went out with parents or someone else paying.

Not much has changed now. We get takeout once or twice a week and every other day eat something cooked at home. I use meal kits because I hate finding ideas for stuff to make every week and that way I can get at least 3 meals for the week figured out easily.

SPEAKING OF MEAL KITS. I always have promo codes for anyone interested. I think right now I have EveryPlate and Home Chef codes. EveryPlate is cheapest but not as much variety. Home Chef is more on the expensive side but lots of options every week including some that need no real prep, u just assemble and put in the oven. And some that take only 15 minutes to prepare.

Eh, I live in Portland so out. Food carts are flipping dope, even if they are expensive. If I eat at home it's gonna be ramen or some shit that's easy... I have thought about getting into cooking but never had access to the facilities... :(

I think disco gave Quakers some meal kit code a few weeks ago that we got from an order from JC Penny. I think. We cook pretty much every meal. Sometimes we cheat and go pick up a pizza. Before the pandemic that is.

Tell me about it. The bank account is crying.

I suppose spending more on dinners is cancelled out by eating more lunches at home. I'm on week three or four of salads for lunch, I just get two bags of salad mix and a cucumber band that's good for like four lunches. Problem is I'm kind of sick of salad and my intestines haven't adopted to the sharp increase in fiber.

I have a terrible habit of grocery shopping, planning meals, and then getting lazy and getting carry out when I'm here alone.....I love cooking, but only when I have an audience....I'll eat trash if I'm alone.

The kids are my usual motivation to cook, and Buddy loves helping out in the kitchen.....Neffie, not so much, but she signed up for home ec this year....Which shocked the shit out of me, so maybe she'll get more involved when she's not terrified of the stove any more.

But just like tonight, I wasn't expecting the kid's mother to come over and pick them up, so I made a huge salad, and thawed out some wings and grated cheese for macaroni......So I had no choice but to cook this food and I'll take some for lunch and probably eat leftovers again tomorrow night......Had I known, I totally would have gotten some Oke Poke instead.

I lived in nyc in the penthouse for a year and a half. We never prepared a single meal in the kitchen. Only espresso out of the $10,000 la marzocco machine. Or cocktails. There wasn't any food in there. We also had a wine cellar.

Breakfast ordered up everyday. Lunch might be ordered up but half the time we were out anyway. We went out to a drunken dinner every night. Only a few times did we ever order up dinner.

Do I miss it? Absolutely. Did he threaten to kill me multiple times? Sure. Did I stand over him as he laid passed out drunk in his underwear while I tried really hard to will myself to stab him to death with the knife I gripped in my sweaty hand shaking with rage? Of course.

But we had fun.

I do like to dine out.

What the hell?

I had no idea you were in an abusive relationship at one time. (Or maybe even more than one time).

From what it sounds like, some rich asshole who felt like he ruled the universe and everything he surveyed was his.

Sorry you had to deal with such a dude.

I can't right now, so I have to dine in at places. I prefer dining in instead of drive thru or take out.

We haven't eaten out since like January. Other than the occasional stop at Sonic.

Yup. There was that one and like 2 semi-abusive ones.

No woman should ever had to be subjected to violence from a coward man.

Whether it's physical or mental abuse. It doesn't matter. It takes a real coward of a man to abuse his partner.

Women abusers rank right up there with pedophiles on my shit list.

Eating at home is nice. I like going out for the atmosphere and discovering new cool restaurants, but I’ve gotten a lot more comfortable with either picking up food and eating it at home or making something.
