Our families alone are more than that.

We already have the reception venue picked out and deposit put down

Wedding's in February so anything outside is a no-go

Try again

Most churches you have to be a member of the church or have to have a religious ceremony to use it. I found one that will do non-religious ceremonies and includes the officiant but it's pretty far from our reception venue and with the weather being so unpredictable that time of year we want to try and have them pretty close. We found this mansion place that does stuff like this. Gonna check it out next week probably.

I expect everyone on the boards to come together and plan 100% of my wedding for me. And also pay for all the vendors for me. And do it with their only payment being getting to come to the reception.

Mostly this is just another Athena Complains™ thread about how much shit goes into planning a wedding and it's too late to just do something really simple because I already put down a deposit for the reception venue also I kind of want something fancy even if I'll complain how hard it is every step of the way.

This might sound crazy but just do it AT the reception venue???

Double wedding? Like double dating, with far more commitment?

She can be naked if she wants

Yes.

we did it in my sister in laws back yard.

catering by chick-fil-a

only family and a few close friends invited.

my dad was the minister.

my wife's uncle provided the music.

basically we just rented some chairs. total cost was about $1000.

my advice would be to keep it simple.

That was the original plan but the thing is the reception is at a museum that's open to the public until 5. Private events don't start until 6. So if we did the ceremony there it would cut into the reception time and we'd have to miss our cocktail hour since we'd be taking pictures and stuff. We'd rather do the ceremony elsewhere and get a longer reception and have time to enjoy the cocktail hour. Gotta get those appetizers, yo.

Our wedding was one of the most difficult things we ever did. My advice would be to go smaller and not spend a shit ton of money.

Omg ur alive

Anyway it's a bit late to do that for the reception venue <_< I wasn't planning on going too big for the rest of the stuff. Was thinking of just finding a place to do the DJ and photographer all in one just to save the stress of having to find multiple people.

Ceremony venue - public park

Officiant - get the paperwork done at a courthouse, do your own "ceremony" as a couple. You don't need some guy in a costume to say "hey, you guys love each other, so do this ritual for me."

DJ - Waste of money. Get an Ipod, make a playlist for specific songs to play during the ceremony, then fill the rest of it with party music and stick it on shuffle for the rest of the night. Oh, you'll need a PA system too probably; still cheaper than a DJ.

Photography - Camera phones, everybody has one.

Lighting - I assume whatever building you intend to be in has a light switch or two?

Flowers  - just get a bunch of silk bouquets from a craft store. Again, probably cheaper than real flowers, especially if you keep the receipts and return them the next day.

Dress/Tux  - See if you can get one from somebody else. Makes no sense to spend a grand on a dress you're only going to wear once.

Invitations - send out invites on facebook for free

Cake - get a couple big icecream cakes from the DQ. Like, $30 each

Hair/Make-up - I assume you have both already?

Ok why do the women seem to always be the ones doing the planning for those?

This, my entire wedding cost 200 dollars. Wedding and reception was all at the same place. The wedding was 10 minutes long, the reception was an hour and the honeymoon was 22 years.
