I like driving, but I do wish America were more walkable. That open road feeling is only fun the first year with your license. I still have occasional joy rides. My mind is much more at rest when I take long nature walks.

I don’t prefer it to walking or other modes of transportation, like bicycling, but I don’t hate it.  It’s one of those thing Angelenos have to do whether we like it or not.  I occasionally drive a box truck around and that can be interesting because it forces you to be more methodical about preparation before you go out driving.  Also, the periodic road trip can rejuvenate enthusiasm for driving because of the scenic vistas and the intimate relationship between driver and open road.

God damn, that's wild. I grew up in the middle of absolutely nowhere, but we still had a Walmart and stuff 10 miles away.

There’s going to be a light rail station a mile away from me which will be awesome because the light rail could theoretically get me everywhere in LA…. But it’s 10 years away at the earliest.

I’ve been hearing it for at least thirty years to this point.  Its on a UP / BNSF spur decommissioned in the early’ ‘90s, and the rumors have been there at least that long, but they only formall announced plans last year.

I voted the driving's ok option, but if it wasn't for the "time is money" 9 to 5 + some mode of life I'm frequently caught in I could enjoy walking/biking/scooters over cars easily I think.

I guess you could say I'm ambivalent towards the automotive industry as a whole.

The thing about the "zoomer" generation that makes me the most hopeful & also the most cynical is the fact that so many of them aren't getting driver's licenses.
