Mix Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Do they ever mean it? Has that phrase always been a place holder for negative sentiment? 1
Sawdamizer Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Its up there with... "thats crazy" for me. Of im saying it... i don't really care.. if someone says it to me, I know they don't care 2
SwimModSponges Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 (edited) I had somebody say it to me once in an entirely genuine tone. There was an asshole at work who pretty well constantly harassed me, finally he did something really nasty and i made an actual complaint. I felt bad about causing a ruckus and I was apologizing to my boss and he says "for what? Finally standing up for yourself? Good for you!" Edited July 29, 2020 by SwimModSponges 1 1
cyberbully Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 I don't find much sincerity in anything people say. 1
Sieg67 Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 I feel like I have to stress that I'm not being sarcastic when I saw that. What I hate is "Bless your heart". I just think "Well fuck you too". 1
Chapinator_X Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 (edited) I don’t think I can find a situation where it doesn’t sound like a petty dig. “Great to hear,” would make more sense for me to say if I’m not trying to take a shot at someone. Edited July 29, 2020 by Chapinator-800

Good for you!" first: that's a solid example of someone using it sincerely second and more importantly: Yo, get ya boys and give him a wicked beatin' by the basketball courts

renjifan Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 I’ve used it both genuinely and sarcastically, but I’d say the latter is probably how it’s used most often by people.

If I am being sincere I would word it like "that's fucking bullshit!" assuming that's the same basic sentiment.

resurrected Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 Good for you usually gets a yes it is good for me response. That's crazy is something I say to attempt to end a conversation because I don't fucking care. Them - "My folks just died in a car accident." Me - "That's crazy." (Logs off quickly). 1

jezebelthenun Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 I say it and mean it. I can sarcasm much better than good for you. There's usually a "wooooooow" thrown in, and overacted feigned interest.
new_disease Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 They sometimes mean it but when they throw in a look like this they don't
