Just caught up with it the other day. On paper it sounds like it’d be a lot more mean-spirited like those ecchi anime where women are seen as only worthwhile for their physical attributes. But the artstyleΒ and the jokes centered around their experiences with mythological beings-of-the-night make it too cutesy and tongue-in-cheek to get that kinda vibe from it.Β
I think I got it as soon as they went to the fairy establishment and each of the guys were paired up with fairies based on their size. Where there’s mixed signals on whether it’s a good or bad thing to be well endowed if you’re trying to get paired with as many fairies as possible.Β

ive seen like the first ep i think? was ok. didnt really get any feelings about it one way or another so i doubt ill watch anymore. then again harems and etcchi arent usually my thing unless it goes into crazy drama and ends in a nice boat.

Weird how they drew the line with this show when it’s premise is right there, full front and center. Usually, shows like this a regularly thrown into the chasms of fansubbing like with Sunohara-san, so it isn’t going to change as much aside from official release cycles.Β

I’m just wondering if there are outside forces that didn’t want Funi to take on the show. Shows like this and other ecchi fare they’ve touted in the past have been notably racy. This reeks more of corporate interference from one of Funi’s newer higher ups.

Are you sure FUNI is to blame here? Maybe Sony finally decided they had some standards. And Sony owns FUNI so...

Considering the murmurs I've heard about Sony not liking sexual content in various PlayStation games, I strongly think this is the case. And that stuff is cheesecake compared to this.

I wasn't watching this show either, and while I briefly considered doing so as a result of the controversy (which is warranted), I decided I'm too cool for that. It's going to be interesting to see if any other licensors are able to acquire this, because there are probably lots of people who either ignored the show or had no idea who now want to stream it.

Depends if FUNi wants to sit on the license or if they’re needled by the Japanese company into negotiating a peaceful transfer of the rights to save face with the licensor. Β Sentai would probably be all over it now.

Well, some anime content has apparently been more explicit than the manga.Β  Also, once they saw the halfling sex in Ep 3, which was pretty much visually child porn, I can see why they'd be squeamish once they thought about it some more and started wondering what else was coming down the pike.Β  I haven't seen Vampire Bund, but was that 900 year old loli shown topless and having sex?Β  Other titles people keep comparing it to feature at least teens.Β  And no borderline bestiality.Β  So yeah, there's a couple of things where this has crossed the line.

I wrote funi about it, don't expect anything from it just felt like telling them how they really just shit the bed and that I was disappointedΒ with how everything was handled. Also the site seems to have went down for maintenance a few mins after I sent my email, so if something gets fixed it's thanks to me.Β
Though really the number of meetings, and hands this had to have passed through to even get one episode up shows extreme neglect via the company and ADR team. Then the PR claiming "standards" I felt was insulting to the creators of the series and patrons who give funimation money that they used to acquire said series. Β

I give FUNi my money every month and would prefer them to not spend it on barely-legal softcore lolicon hentai. Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

The series doesn't have loli in it that I know of. I assume you're thinking of the angel who is an adult hermaphrodite.

I have the annual subscription rather than the monthly one;Β ontop of buying blu-rays,Β and they already spent the money on the distribution and ADR. Really I'm fine with them not having it on the stream, but since the spuds already spent the money, may as well have a physical release because the Japanese BD doesn't have english subs. Now the only way to get a copy with english subs legally, is to either subscribe to Funimations sister company Animelab in Australia; pay for that subscriptionΒ and use a VPN, or wait for Animelab to release a physical copy and have a B/2 region blu-ray player which sucks. Guess it's back to a life of piracy.Β

Remember when we used to have such wholesome anime as High School DxD and Monster Musume?

Let the record show that I chose to check out DxD to learn the entire context of Issei's death in episode 1, kept watching past the first couple episodes because the story was surprisingly above-average (and Rias wasn't a bitchy tsundere like I expected her to be), and the fanservice had absolutely nothing to do with it.

I've always considered loli to be the age, but Japan does what Japan wants at times. Like how the angel here is 9 while the dragon is 300. The classifications that I know of are loli andΒ oppai loli being real loli. Then there is oba loli which is an old person that looks like a loli. Though oba loli tends to be relative to the race. So if an elf or dragon aged slowly and were 200 years old, but still looked and acted like a loli they'd I think be treated as one. Where as if a human were 50 and looked like a loli, they'd be an oba loli. I don't know if japan hasΒ a term for just short adultsΒ with large tits though /a/ just calls them shortstacks. Though just being flat is a pettanko.Β

Damn, you start off thinking that it’s just Funi getting cold feet, but then it becomes a larger chain reaction as soon as Episodes 3-4 come out. It calls into question why they didn’t just create an OVA series from it instead of trying to have the first couple episodes be a Trojan horse to letting them spend the remainder of the episodes showing every instance of penetration.Β

After catching up with the show, I can see what they meant when they were going to make every new episode more explicit than the rest. Possibly the most recent example of a show that goes full Madoka and makesΒ an infamous transition lΒ during Episode 3.

Makes sense. The manga it was based on really had NO sex scenes whatsoever, and there it worked because it's just a printed page, where you can use your imagination and the reviews from the tabloids they posted in the show work better in a book. Everyone was just put off by how the inclusion of sex scenes in the anime turned it into a totally different genre!

Because the angel looks like a little girl, and the halflings look like children.Β  The scene with the sex-changed halfling, showing her tiny pubescent-looking naked breasts was just a wee bit over the line.Β  Do no 300 year old halfling women have full breasts (like at least a B-cup)?Β  They made that choice, to appeal to the pedos.

I found a pretty good video on the subject, not about what’s woke or any nonsense like that, but getting to the core of the matter - Licensing sight unseen can be a complete crapshoot, especially when the manga was far tamer.

Another censored broadcast has been taken off the air, but the premium channel airings continue unabated.

This show is anime Big Mouth. Β There’s a moral here but it’s buried under blatant sex acts.
