wipe out is just plain imbossible to play...how that franchise is still alive lets me know that somewhere, there is autism involved

SNES F Zero? I got good enough to beat it when I was younger, but F Zero X is is my favorite. It had a Battle Royale option where you just destroy the competition instead of racing.

yeah they released some SNES games for Switch and i've been bad at Super Mario World today for longer than I'm going to admit to

Much as I liked F Zero, the only racing game I really loved was Burnout 3. God I want a remaster or port of that so badly.

and i want a remaster of Need for Speed Underground but EA apparently doesn't like my money

What may be happening with Underground is what is likely happening to Burnout 3. The soundtrack licenses are keeping it from being done for whatever reason.

I think I was able to place 2nd in the first cup after a few hours work when the SNES mini first came out.

that is very possible. i remember when they re-released Crazy Taxi and it was AWFUL mostly because they replaced most of the music. No Offspring = No Crazy Taxi

Dude, I made a CD a few tears ago (well, probably creeping up on a couple of decades) with nothing but game music and this was #3. (Bloody Tears was #1....and Wicked Child #2 and still would be)

What version of Bloody Tears? I'm mainly familiar with Castlevania II's and Castlevania IV's, and even though I otherwise really like IV's soundtrack, I prefer II's version of Bloody Tears.

I don't know / remember what other Castlevania games use that tune.

I love every version, but 4 was on the CD

Wipeout HD is actually pretty easy to play.

The older Wipeouts, though... not so much.

I saw your SOTN post.  Too late

SOTN has the best music out of all of them. i forgot Bloody Tears wasn't in the American version and it wasn't that good

Rondo also has one of the best Vampire Killers in the whole franchise.

Sorta related, one of my favorite epic heavy metal bands, Battleroar, wrote a song called Vampire Killer about Castlevania:

They also have a song about Double Dragon called Double Dragon.

Spoiler

And speaking of Double Dragon, DD Neon has the best DD soundtrack ever. Especially this song:

Honestly not a fan of that DD song. >_> The Rondo of Blood song is only weird in the context of Castlevania. On its own merit it's not bad.

Not a fan of the excessive 80's-ness? <_<

Pretty sure I just got wipeout HD and refuse to play it.

In all honestly, the game's not that crazy in single player. It's basically just F Zero with weapons (especially on the lower speed classes and on easy or normal enemy ai.). The higher speed classes will require mastery of the airbrakes and side shifting though. One important thing to note: You'll want to go into the control options and turn throttle sensitivity down all the way. Throttle sensitivity is a dumb feature and having it on anything other than the absolute minimum will hinder you. Also, never use pilot assist. Ever. It'll fuck up your racing line every time.

The game really only gets crazy in multiplayer phantom class races (and on elite enemy ai.). I guess zone mode can be crazy sometimes too (at least once it goes beyond phantom class speeds).

What I'm getting out of this, is it takes a hell of a lot of effort, completely outside of practicing and getting better at the game, for the game to be playable.

All it takes is knowing that the throttle sensitivity feature is technically redundant and that pilot assist is the "I'm bad at racing games but driving around the track is fun and I don't care if I win" setting (similar to the assist mode in the latest Mario Kart game). That's not really much in the way of extra effort.

Also, neither of these things render the game unplayable if ignored.

Hell, you can still play the game at a high level even with throttle sensitivity left at 100%. You'll wear your controller out faster though (since leaving that setting at 100% means you have to hold the throttle button down pretty hard to accelerate at full capacity.). It's also not ideal if you are prone to getting hand cramps and what not.

I barely remember F Zero X or F Zero GX, but they werent much different from each other in terms of gameplay I think. I know GX had the full roster of cars available to race with I can't remember if X did. I wouldn't mind playing them both again sometime honestly.

X had all the characters that existed at the time and GX took some out to replace them with new, shitty ones....Except Don Genie...He was awesome
