Why do people need so much conflict in their entertainment in order to enjoy it?

Human beings are horrible. They thrive off things being hard for them!

And we'd still be living in caves of they didn't.

Cuz no one wants to watch a 3 hour movie about someone on their way to work, most people want a protagonist that has a problem that needs resolution and an antagonist that attempts to thwart that, doesn't have to be violent, maybe a love interest or a family problem, even funny movies have conflict

'falling down' epic story of a man, going to work, in the park. :)

Are you talking about the Michael Douglas movie?  If you are, you know darn well it wasn’t about a man going to work.   xD

"It is conflict that improves the lot of civilization and single being, both. Conflict forces one to better oneself. It forces change, growth, adaption, evolution… or death. These are not out laws, but the universe's. Without conflict you have only stagnation."

It's not his fault that no one appreciated all the hard work he put in.

I loved that movie especially the part when he flips out in that McDs type restaurant.

@fuggnificent if you’re serious you might want to read this, if you haven’t already, it’s  old af but all the things he talks about that makes good stories is still true

Basic narrative stuff.

Man against Man, Man against Nature, Man against Himself, Man against Society.  Without conflict, there's no story.

In other words, "Once upon a time...and they lived happily ever after" would be it..

The Joy of Painting w/Bob Ross is wildly popular. Sometimes it's not about conflict.

Man vs canvas and happy trees.  Traditional handicap match.

Life is conflict. If you think about it, every action a person takes is at the expense of something or someone.

Something as simple as making food or going to the store is conflict. Something had to become food or gas to sustain a lifestyle.

Someone had to suffer to make consumable goods, and every purchase, every move is a victory you celebrate for reaping the benefits.

Makes people feel productive without doing anything? Conflict helps us understand the world around us. But we tend not to like it when it happens to us, so people use others to their advantage.

Then you'd probably live vicariously through rom-coms or something where the conflicts don't require explosions.

Different people, different things.
