Go to your profile, Account Settings > under Other Settings > Notification Settings > and under Notifications, there's a check box that says "play a sound on notifications" or something similar. Make sure that box isn't checked. EDIT: The trail I typed should be accurate now.

I pretty much never browse on mobile. I listen to music while on the boards constantly, but only on desktop, and the notifications never interfere with my music.

Fuck, when I first tried my friend's bass guitar, I assumed my guitar skills would transfer over like cake, but they didn't at all. Sitars are huge instruments that look very hard to play. A tamboura might be more reasonable, I don't know. But guitar skills really have nothing to do with the other instruments I've mentioned. Good luck with the keyboard! Even if it doesn't work out, you can give it to your daughter.

I've been playing guitar since I was 13, and throughout my teen years I didn't give a crap about any other instrument. As I got into my 20s I began to like other instruments, like flute, tin whistle, sitar, tamboura, and pipe organ. I got a synthesizer pickup for my guitar so I can simulate those sounds on my guitar. But it would be great to learn the actual instruments, but I'm a) too poor and b) too lazy.

No reason to laugh. I'm generally not a big fan of the brass family, but that's just personal preference.

So @Adminderaptorpat I have some ideas on this. You were thinking each donation can buy about 3 months worth of a custom rank, correct? What about in addition to that, you/KN keep running total records of how much each member has donated. Once a member reaches a certain threshold of donations, the custom rank can be permanent. I assume it would be impossible to get paypal to talk to the forum software enough to keep an auto-updating running total on our profiles, but maybe every time someone donates, they receive a PM that states something like "You have just made a donation of x dollars, which gives you three months of a custom rank. Your running total of donations is y dollars. You have z dollars more to go to receive a permanent custom rank."
