Go to your profile, Account Settings > under Other Settings > Notification Settings > and under Notifications, there's a check box that says "play a sound on notifications" or something similar. Make sure that box isn't checked. EDIT: The trail I typed should be accurate now.

I pretty much never browse on mobile. I listen to music while on the boards constantly, but only on desktop, and the notifications never interfere with my music.

Fuck, when I first tried my friend's bass guitar, I assumed my guitar skills would transfer over like cake, but they didn't at all. Sitars are huge instruments that look very hard to play. A tamboura might be more reasonable, I don't know. But guitar skills really have nothing to do with the other instruments I've mentioned. Good luck with the keyboard!
