Draft ruling shows Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade: report
rpgamer replied to _lost_username_'s topic in Current Events
I was saying way back during his covid response that he seemed prepared to be unpopular as long as shit got done, at least in regard to doing more than the nothing that the previous administration was doing, at least at first. Setting himself up as a one-term president that sets the groundwork for someone else to reap the rewards, so to speak. But, that doesn't really work if he's not going to do the things that need doing, preserving voting rights, killing the filibuster, packing the court, etc. -

Starting to seem like Biden has absolutely no interest in staying in for a second term.. -

Give it a few weeks, they might start repealing Amendments because they weren't originally part of the Constitution... -

The sentiment seemed pretty clear much earlier with the "red, green, bi-polar" line. Exactly the sort of wording you usually get from someone trying to be dismissive of marginalized groups. -

In fairness, looking back, we did kinda make it to that point after Floyd. Shit started burning, that whole Autonomous Zone thing in Seattle (and maybe a few others? idk), cops generally fearing for their lives. Shame we didn't really see strong tangible results from that. Seen a few calls for a general strike across the country. But, like. We're still reeling from labor shortages and supply chain problems and covid not actually being gone, etc. These rich fucks won't be impacted in the slightest by that. Idk. Something needs to bring these folks back down to reality. They're all just too detached from everything they preside over. -

The presidency has a minimum age requirement. Why shouldn't there also be a maximum? -

Oh thank fuck, I'm not the only one feeling it. Not even sure what it would take to reach that point if this isn't it. -

Feels like our totalitarianism is rarely on display so clearly.. -

At least they made it easier to access/carry a weapon now, y'know, for whatever purposes one might need a gun for.... I'd say women everywhere have a pretty strong self defense case at this point............. -

Just to bring it all around full circle, this is probably exactly what the founding fathers would be 100% on board with. -

Ultimately, I'd agree. I'd like to be hopeful enough that the results of such extreme action would still be favorable and popular enough to prevent the vocal minority from gaining enough traction to try overturning anything. I'd like to believe that the failed coup is a clear sign they don't have the power they think they do. Or, at the very least, violent revolution now would send the message that we won't stand for this shit when they try again. -

Absofuckinglutely. But, I think a big worry at this point is, because of those nut jobs, we'd be facing a revolution if we ever tried. Chances are we're heading in that direction one way or another... And maybe it kinda needs to happen. But I'm also not thrilled with opening that door allowing any sore loser to violently impose their will. -

Would be super nice if we could get there. But, still got this obnoxious loud minority wanting to drag us back... -

You're not wrong. But, all sponges was saying is that the founding fathers were more enlightened (on this one singular matter at least) than this court that claims to worship them. Not that we should be surprised at them worshipping their own interpretation of something. -

"Age of enlightenment" is an accurate term for that time period, but more appropriately applied to Europe, though the founders were still plenty influenced by overseas politics and philosophies. -

I don't tend to give a great deal of consideration to what their motivations have been. Didn't need to understand that point of view to know it's wrong. -

In hindsight, it does start to make sense why some folks would take issue with reducing risk to women... -

Ffs, he ain't saying we should bring that back or anything. It was the best available at the time, and was a widely accepted practice. Medical advancements made it safer, and somehow it's become less acceptable. -

...I believe the point was that (one of) the founding fathers believed in access to abortion, given that at-home was the best you could get at the time. Thus, this ruling, like most, cites the "founding fathers" with no consideration to their beliefs. -

They don't have to outlaw reading if they're writing all the textbooks. -
That's a whole lot of words just to say "go fuck yourself jingy."

Dig their heels in and say "fuck the future, everything was already perfect 50 years ago."

I kinda always listened on shuffle, but still never wanted to go for a Shuffle. You at least gotta have the option to choose, and sometimes you just wanna show off a particular song or something. Bit disappointed ipods are officially discontinued now. I don't use apple for anything else, but have been kinda spoiled by itunes (the program, not the store), being able to modify start/stop times on songs, or tweak the volume for individual songs that might play just a little louder or softer than the rest..
