For the candidates, Trump is Trump. We all know who he is, and we have all had 4 years of him being President. So his status was already set.

Harris, on the other hand, was an absolutely horrible candidate from Day 1. Anyone who is honest with themselves would see that. She failed to gain a single vote in the primaries, and flamed out before her own state of California was ever able to vote for her. Tulsi Gabbard ended her campaign in 2020 before it ever got going.

Prior to being anointed as the nominee this year she was one of the most unpopular VPs in American history. At no point did people ever have a favorable opinion of her. If there was an actual open primary following the palace coup against Biden she would not have won. But Democrats couldnt do that because it risked shattering their coalition, something that may have happened anyway.

She was the most artificial candidate we have ever seen, and couldnt even find a way to answer some of the most basic questions asked of her.
"What would you do different from Biden?"

"Nothing"

Thats as politically tone deaf an answer as you can possibly have when everything suggested people are not happy with the direction of the country.

The VP pick wasnt any better. She went with Waltz because she couldnt go with the Jewish Shapiro. The antisemitic wing of the Democratic party was simply too strong for her to go with the much smarter and more politically adept pick of Shapiro. Waltz turned into a huge liability and did nothing to help bring rural voters, particularly men, into the Democratic fold. His debate performance was horrible, and he was just weird.

Vance on the other hand clearly demonstrated an ability to communicate with people, and his performances on those podcasts are a huge reason why men showed up for Trump.

Joe Rogan wound up potentially being kingmaker this year. Harris flat out refused to go to Rogan to do the podcast. Trump, Vance, and Trump surrogate Musk all made sure to go to that podcast. A three hour conversation that made them all seem like perfectly normal people. Harris absolutely needed to do that, and she didnt. Those conversations perfectly pierced the media bubble that Trump is Hitler. No one who listened to those podcasts would think that. Baron Trump apparently was instrumental in having the Trump campaign lean into these podcasts to get to these voters.

Don't you have children being bombed to ignore in that other thread?

I fully expect Musk and friends to attempt something crazy vs a green energy transition, like sulfur dioxide geo-engineering.

What gets me is that people really should be cheering the idea of a guy like Musk being far more involved in government.

He single handedly made electric vehicles a viable option in this country. Without him the EV market would still be where it was 15 years ago. Like him or not, he absolutely is a visionary whos ideas should be, at a minimum, explored. I think a lot of them are far out there, but it does force the question on how to approach issues.

Pollsters sometime ask the question, "Do you think America's best days are in front of her or are behind her?"

I am firmly in the behind opinion. This is the first time I ever felt that way.

Interesting thought, what happens to Hunter Biden now? Lots of rumors that Biden was going to pardon him before his term was up. Sentencing is next week, election is over. When does the Pardon hit?

And bonus thought, does Biden throw the ultimate chaos move by pardoning Trump at the same time so Trump doesnt pardon himself.  Lottttssss of talk that Bidenworld is beyond pissed at how this all went down. It sure would be one last middle finger if he wound up throwing out duel pardons.

I’m sort of in the “depressed but not despondent” phase.  My main concern is hoping they get as many environmental protections etched in stone, same with the Dept of Education.  I don’t think Trump is going to dissolve them or let RFK run roughshod with our health (what’s the point of running a country of dead people?) but they will be facing cutbacks.

I know what Trump is, but I think Vance is a neophyte who could be controlled.

Vance has a tenth of the charisma but also a much more even temperament.  I imagine what he does will be much more subtle. It’s why his debate with Walz was so weird.  Both of them came off as relatively normal.

And the cosmic ballet goes on.

I know the idea of what these idiots wants to do is terrifying, but in much the same way old people like Social Security and vote in record numbers, so many green energy policies benefit red states and their job markets, and that is likely what will prevent the worst from happening.  Pushback on the local, state, and federal level via a filibustered House.  How is the Wall doing anyway?

Learning something in this context isn't important because 90% of the thoughts people are forming in the aftermath of a loss is bullshit. Anyone confidently saying "this is why Dems lost and this is what we need to do" can be ignored.

This will always be the fundamental weakness of Trumpism.  The personality smokescreen only last so long as the personality is alive.  When the dementia fully takes hold and JD Vance is president, well, do you really see Vance inspiring the same level of fervor?  It'd be like watching a really bad cover band of the Rolling Stones after seeing the Stones the night before.

It just boggles my mind to know a person whose been supporting me and my mother voted for trump

On one hand he’s given us all he can to help us but on the other he’s a devoted trump fan

I think he’s going to screw RFK because he is no longer useful. Someone in his orbit will get close enough to him and say “you can’t actually give this guy an office.”

I think one of the first things we will see the public pushback on is whatever Musk plans comes to light. He is a guy surrounded by people who tell him all his ideas are good and so far he has gotten the public to believe he’s a genius too. Whenever it comes time though, I think people will see it and be like “WTF?” and say “no way,”

Musk has outright said to brace for pain these next few years.  That was their pitch.

It's why I'm calling it.  When the Trump effect is gone (because he'll hopefully be gone sooner rather than later) and President Vance is seeing people pissed they had their heads put on the burning stove to teach them the folly of the GOP's policies, we will see a lot of buyer's remorse.

I’m certain it won’t take long for musk to have an “emperor has no clothes” moment.

Trump seems to have an instinct when it comes to his sycophants trying to get more out of him than vice versa. He wants two things: glory and money. If he sees Musk turn public opinion against him, he’s going to drop him and say “I never bought into that” or “He didn’t tell me about that.” Trump always tries to divert blame for fails as much as he tries to take credit for good things.

Just saw an interview where Junior said (in reference to the upcoming appointments): We want people who don't think they know better than the President.

So they're looking for even dumber blithering idiots.

I enjoy how people talk about Trump's appointments like they are not eventually going to be betrayed by the man they willingly chose to work for.

Miller is a pretty common name amongst Anglo/German Jews. Seems like it was adopted a very long time ago before many emigrated from Europe.

Not sure what's going to be worse, Putin trying to butter up Trump to abandon our allies in Ukraine, or RFK Jr. having any say on health.  I imagine liberal states need to do something to insulate themselves from his horseshit if Trump doesn't throw him out on his ass, and then let Trump's constituents die in the ensuing flood of health misinformation.

I don't think RFK is gonna last that long.

As co-chair she conflicted with a lot of his original campaign people. She was unlike a lot of them because she was trying to keep Trump focused on less crazy stuff and ultimately failed. This is why I thought it was a curious choice.

You can speculate a lot but she doesn’t seem the sort that would allow the RFK sorts into his orbit. I just kind of wonder if he needed someone to take the heat when he doesn’t appoint a lot of the fringe characters that he made promises to during the campaign. Trump is stupid but does have an instinct for finding ways to keep himself for receiving direct blame for things.
