Me working at a cardiology office, patients still call and ask if they're okay to take. Also ask if the docs will prescribe it. I try to hold back my giggles because it's still funny thinking old people having sex. I'm still 12.

I worked in family practice for ten years. Fridays were the worst - every geriatric dude in the county calling to see if we had Viagra or Cialis samples because Medicare would only cover 5 a month. You're 75 - how much sex do you actually need?

Not nursing homes, retirement communities and assisted living facilities. We had kind of a mini epidemic of chlamydia at one of the local facilities - somebody picked it up someplace, and the gent who was servicing half the widows in the complex shared the wealth. It's kind of awkward, having a conversation about safe sex with somebody who was born before WWII.

No, they are called that in Japanese. maki means spiral. There are the Naruto whirlpools, which is where the anime and the food gets their name.

I didn’t think clubs like the NY Athletic Club existed anymore.  (Some friends and I went to see a judo tournament there).  You need a collared shirt and blazer to even get through the front door, and you need a sponsor to get membership.  Also the place has an in-house restaurant and lounge, and is famous for training tons of Olympic athletes.

It did result in a funny scene, the boys and I all dressed with nice shirts and suit jackets going through the lobby while a bunch of spectators in jeans were all shuffled into the laundry elevator to get to where the tournament was being held.

came to the conclusion that their only option to prevent a global catastrophe was to commit a terrorist attack that would definitely kill hundreds of innocent people, had an extended discussion on whether or not it would be morally acceptable, then successfully bombed a train full of captive civilians.

That book was wild. Probably one of the best in the series, which is actually a high bar.

@ghostrek You should read Animorphs. They're basically like reading Star Trek for a younger demographic, but it doesn't shy away from getting into the weeds on heavy subjects. It's darker than Star Trek by a pretty significant margin and handled maturely, so it being aimed at children shouldn't have much impact on enjoyment as long as you're okay with some goofy Saturday morning cartoon dialogue. I haven't seen DS9 yet, but I've heard it's a little more serialized than TNG and if that's true, Animorphs would probably be more like DS9 than TNG. Most books are pretty standalone in their story, but there's enough progression from one to the next that they should be read in order.

Long series, fairly short books, easy reads. If you prefer audiobooks, Audible has all of them.

I was a little too young for them. I would've been getting old enough right around the time they ended. I remember attempting to read one, but got confused by all the sci-fi terms.

The fact Animorphs wasn't very controversy compared to Pokemon and Harry Potter is remarkable and shows how little the people up in arms over those actually knew about what kids were consuming. Animorphs is much, much more violent, and graphic, than either of those. Significantly more insightful, though, given it's basically Star Trek to the point of frequent references to it but with more of a central focus on a guerrilla war and the psychological impacts.

It's probably right up your alley.

Yeah I'm I'm surprised a lot more series are more controversial but aren't despite the fact they are in fact due  moral upheaval do to some very religious gruops. Plus people with way too much time on their hands and seeing evil around every corner can overlook some things I don't know how but they're looking for you at any spot they can they find the lowest hanging fruit which isn't necessary evil.

Animorphs is really good at diving into morality and making it digestible to kids, but if those same parents had read it, it would've been very controversial.
