United Healthcare CEO Shot Dead in NYC

Early this morning an unknown suspect gunned down UHC CEO Brian Thompson in front of The Hilton Midtown.

Holy shit!  I wonder if his legal battles had anything to do with it, or maybe he denied necessary healthcare?

This was a targeted attack and although sad, I’m sure the dude has family, he was probably not a nice guy

I should probably look more into this dude before commenting

I’m not pretending to be sad just cuz people die violently anymore, or cuz a human has died.  I’m sure he made a lot of people miserable navigating our healthcare system. Some probably died doing it

Oh im sure he's a POS, but my biggest hang up is with insurance companies, especially the big 3 but before I started ranting, I wanted to see if it was even relevant.

A CEO of anything getting shot in cold blood has to have a reason

I saw the clip, definitely a hit job.

I made a comment earlier that Fox News would probably portray it as an example of crime run amuck despite it clearly being a targeted assassination. Of course this link was immediately posted in response because of course https://www.mediamatters.org/fox-news/fox-anchor-baselessly-ties-shooting-united-healthcare-ceo-migrant-crisis

Only thing I wonder about is why the guy didn't have a protective detail with him. Was he just overly complacent? His wife said he had received some threats, so definitely doesn't make any sense he would think he didn't need one. Was he too cheap to want to spend on one? Guy surely had enough money to afford it. Or did he just not have them with him at the time? As for motive: until they catch the killer, no way to really do anything more than just wildly speculate.

This was some Agent 47 shit.  The assassin gets up close with a silenced pistol using subsonic bullets to not cause excess noise.  He then ditches the gun and flees into Central Park on a CitiBike, the most common transport for anyone using a bike and then blended in with the thousands of people in the park.

This was planned.  Meticulously.

They didn’t find who did it yet. He fled on an e citibike and vanished like a fart in the wind in Central Park. Definitely a hit job.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about that. The reports are that the killer's gun jammed, and they had to clear it, leaving behind three bullets at the scene. Sounds kind of amateurish in some ways to me.

This was clearly a hit job. Like straight out of a movie kind of hit. The assassin knew exactly who he was, where he would be, and when to strike.

Im sure he had a family, so thats sad.

Realllyyyy gotta question what led to this though.

I also suspect that this is going to lead to more CEOs having body guards. Kinda wondering why that wasnt the case here honestly. Insurance company CEO seems like one of those jobs that has a slightly higher than normal chance of someone trying to take you out.

Do the jammed bullets have marks from the gun, or do they just tell caliber of weapon?

They’re so out of touch they probably think no one would go after them.

Because they largely dont. And unless you have a real reason to even know who a CEO is odds are you wouldnt know it if one sat down next to you.

In the 1910-20s there were hits on CEOS and the Robber Barons, but we've largely moved away from that as a society in the US. If this is a swing back toward that then you can bet CEOs are going to start to have more body guards.

They will definitely need it. :|

Have you ever come fully to during a surgical procedure? I have. I cycle through medications so quickly that I have to be monitored constantly to be kept under. And if they aren't careful and I start floating back, there is no putting me back under. Anesthesia should be fully covered no matter what. Staying out helps get things done faster and helps with the healing process. You WANT that to happen because otherwise it's going to be more claims for payment and more people challenging the denials.

Dental visits are really fun too.

What do you want to say?

To put it more mildly, I started following the conservative subreddit because of the election. Even though many people there are criticizing liberals for cheering the ceo's death, most people there are saying he was an unethical man and a revenge motive would be understandable.

This makes me a bit hopeful: we can reach across the aisle by eating the fucking rich.

This is why people their lives are in danger. Htf does the government even allow this?  Is this even for real?

Those aghast about people ngaf that he was killed need to take several thousand seats.  Especially considering BCBS decided if your surgery goes for too long and have to pay out of pocket for anesthesia. That’s ridiculous.

I am not really interested in working with conservatives on anything. At least not at the moment. They can go get fucked.

They should never feel safe. I’m sorry but healthcare in this country is horrible in part thanks to them.  Capitalism has no place in healthcare. It’s fuckin gross.

My Dad had a 40 min surgery that went on for 2 hours due to complications. Thank goodness the insurance companies were a little less evil back then or he would have had to pay for the anesthesia.  That’s one of the more expensive charges if not the most.

The shell casings had “deny” “defend” and “depose” written on them. This is some wild shit.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/unitedhealthcare-ceo-brian-thompson-shot-dead-gunman-bullet-casings-rcna182975

Apparently, the dude has a thing for alliteration. Seriously though, interesting to see the bullets were deliberately left behind at the scene and it wasn't a jam with the gun after all. Still seems kind of amateurish to leave evidence behind that could potentially have DNA or fingerprints that could help identify exactly who he is and serve as hard evidence against them if they're caught. They've released some photos anyway of the killer's full face now that they got off a video surveillance from somewhere apparently. Also, he apparently visited a Starbucks and bought some things that the police have recovered, so gotta think it's only a matter of time now before they figure out who it is and track him down.

Edit: Hm, actually, I'm hearing now that the shell casings were placed on the ground and actually not the ones that were discharged from the gun. So I guess it did jam after all, and there's three live rounds in addition to the three casings with the words on them that were left behind at the scene then.

Idt they’re catching this guy unless he gives himself up.  Although I would love to know what made him do it.  Let’s say he was a paid hit man and was told exactly what to do, I would find some poetic justice in that. A man making his living off exploiting sick people gets murdered by someone that makes a living off killing people.   They would practically be two peas in a pod

I ctfu at the NYP trying to shame a journalist for saying “no wonder people want them dead” attached to the notification about NY CT and MO getting anesthesia denied if surgery goes too long. Now, mind you, BC/BS would probably pay NONE of the cost if that happened

I’m tired of pos people gaslighting us into thinking not caring about this is wrong. Look what those monsters were about to do
