Wait, this premiered before tonight?  Was it on Max?  I thought it was on Toonami first.  Well, I guess I'm watching it now.

I still don't get why it's in black and white.  And never thought Toonami would air stuff in Japanese on a regular basis.  Demarco said they never would.

I probably won't be able to comment as much, since I have to read the subtitles.

I didn't realize either, so this was my first time seeing it too.

Yeah, I guess I don't mind it for this, but two at once is already a bit much.

I'm further confused by the promo that just aired, saying the show is supposed to be on Toonami before Max.  Maybe the first episode was different?

Well, I can't stand Rick & Morty, so I'm not watching that haha.

I wasn’t creeped out too bad by much of the episode, but Kurotani and her fucked up eye near the end was what did me in lol.

They have something special with this. I heard at least one episode’s going to be 45 minutes long and that sounds like a blast already.

LMAO This was me for like almost the entire episode. Wish I could have seen it last night with most of you. I get why they did it in black and white anyway. It's like a call back to the old classic horror movies a lot of people are familiar with. Also, when there's only light and dark, it sends like a primal message I think that our brains get somehow that sets us in the mood for horror. Like black and white equals good and evil. There's no in between... so you know there's gonna be some bad shit coming. LOL

That was TITS. Absolutely incredible. Everything I hoped it would be. I was sitting there jaw agape for half of it and kept yelling out "oh what the fuck." If they needed all of those delays to produce something that looked that fantastic, then it was worth every minute. Can't wait for the rest.

That was the only thing in the episode that was nightmare fuel for me though cutting fingerprints hurt the most to look at. Arguably the realistic bullying was the most disturbing moment overall but the eye thing was pure nightmare fuel. I hate that it’s basically the key art for the show everywhere you look.

Is Uzumaki means spiral, I wonder if that has anything to do with Naruto and his father's Rasengan ability.

Uzumaki means spiral and Naruto was named after the spiral shaped fish cake that’s used as a garnish on ramen and other soups. So his whole name is a pun.

That promo just said the show premieres on Toonami and comes out later on Max, so I'm not sure how people saw it before tonight.  I know it wasn't available to record until tonight.

Screeners were sent out for review before the premiere. That’s how people already saw the entire first episode.

I just figured the black-and-white was mostly because this is trying to be treated as a faithful adaptation, as close as you can literally get to "manga but animated."

But maybe also kinda yeah, I think too it'd lose some of the impact if it were to be colorized.

Just as expected, I'm diggin' this. Will likely watch the dubbed version later this week to see how it compares.

Yeah, that was the biggest NOPE moment for me too. At least a black hole growing out of my forehead isn't something I have to worry about happening in real life.

_________ put the dub from MAX online already.

That was inevitable. Frankly AS was stupid not to air the dub later in Toonami. It’s good that it’s on Max the next day but not everyone who wanted watch the dub also has Max.

I watched this on Max last night. Didn’t know that on [as] it airs in Japanese. I might watch both. I like to watch both because subs seem to have a much more honest translation compared to dubs. I noticed with dubs they clean the language up a bit

Show is extremely friggin creepy. I like it already. I always had a fondness for horror anime. I hadn’t watched any anime in a long while. I didn’t even know [as] started producing it. Idk maybe I just never noticed?

In any case I like the strange creepy vibe and I hope it stays without color. I don’t want to say “black and white” because idk if that’s what you call this.  The art style adds to the overall creepiness of the episode. It added an anxiety to it.  First episode was well done.

The dub is scheduled to air on Thursdays at 12:30, I guess following in Rick and Morty's footsteps.

Max is lame you can watch it in Japanese but there are no subtitles you have to turn on English CC and that’s definitely not the same thing at all

No, that is weak.  Netflix at least differentiates between the subs and closed captioning.

Anyway, apparently anime is a growth sector for Zaslav and friends.  They've started slowly with some anime based on DC characters and they're making more originals, like Rooster Fighter which will be coming out soon.

I was going to watch it again but once I saw they were captioning the English dub I shut it off. I agree I like that about Netflix too. I really wonder if Max thinks it’s the same thing?

Hope they do justice to anime’s  they produce and they don’t fuck it up somehow

ETA maybe in this instance the CCs and subs are the same because it’s produced by [as] but I doubt it.

Yup.

And the dub was so fucking good for this ep. Shit was even creepier.
