I mostly disagree.  Not on the decrepit ghoul stuff, you wont ever hear me argue against that.

I do think she needed to go though. Once she announced her intentions to go, she had to follow through. If we backed down now then China would become even more aggressive. China is the number 1 geopolitical threat we, and the entire free world, face. Russia makes noise, but China is the real threat. You cant back down now.  We saw what they did to Hong Kong, and the world collectively shrugged. China wants to do the same thing to Taiwan. We cant let that happen for numerous reasons.

China has been saber rattling for so long, this hardly does much to change anything other than give China another opportunity to draw a line in the sand that everyone is going to ignore.  China isn't going to war now with the Ukrainian conflict ongoing and too man opportunities to fill in the void left by Russia in Europe, and they're not giving up on Taiwan anytime soon either.  At best, it's the Democrats thumbing their nose at China at a time when doing so is thoroughly unnecessary.  It isn't going to destabilize anything, but that only highlights how pointless it was.  One could even argue China came out ahead by putting a spotlight on how pointless the trip is for US and Taiwanese relations.

Big primary night for the GOP. Arizona is critical for the GOP if they want to take back the Senate this year. Tonight could go a long way to either securing a win or throwing it away. There are candidates for both Gov and Senate that are bat shit insane. If the GOP nominates them, Arizona stays Blue.  If they dont go with the bat shit insane options then Arizona is a real pickup opportunity for the GOP.

 

Im betting on bat shit crazy and Dems holding both seats.

I think we talked about this in the insurrection thread. The Dems are saying that MAGA is an existential threat to the nation while at the same time funding the most crazy MAGA candidates they can find.

I am going to update my prediction for November now as well. Sure starting to look like the GOP are going to blow it this year.  Theres a long way to go, but the momentum is clearly on the Democrats side right now.

The GOP have an amazing ability to nominate the absolute worst possible candidates and blow easily winnable races. If I had to handicap it right now, theres a 75% change the Dems hold the Senate, and a 50-50 coin flip in the House. The GOPs blind loyalty to Trump is going to cause the party to die.

Which, frankly, it deserves to. If your loyalty to Trump is greater than loyalty to the country then you deserve to fail.

Normally I would agree with you, but the GOP is such a dumpster fire that Im not so sure. The Dobbs decision also has totally scrambled the electorate this year. I still expect the GOP to flip the House, but Im not so sure it will be in a wave type election.  They may wind up with a 5-10 seat majority, which for the GOP will be completely unruly.

The PA race may be one of the most interesting in the country now. Fetterman was the single strongest candidate Democrats had in the entire nation before his stroke. Oz is a horrible candidate who is running at the same time as a uniquely dangerous GOP nominee for Gov.

Normally this should be an easy pickup for Democrats. But you may notice I said that Fetterman was the strongest candidate. His stroke has clearly knocked him down a lot. The videos from his last campaign even are not great and people are openly questioning if he is healthy enough to campaign and then serve for 6 years.

Ive been saying for a while that I think PA goes Democrat, but now Im not so sure. Fettermans progress is really great, but is it good enough to convince voters to go for him?
