I remember even back in the PS1 days when I was 7 I used to have some display output cable similar to that. This was back in '99 I think, so it wasn't exactly like that one but it had a switch where I could select channel 3 or 4 on the tv to be the channel for the PS1 output.

Fuck that makes me feel old. Back when playing games on tv didn't run by going to an HDMI or composite mode, but having to have it run to one of the channels.

That was the first one I had. Had to screw those prongs down to the back of the TV which was always fun. And trying to get the antenna wire screwed in was also a blast.

These were fun too.  Hard plastic wrapped twin lead that never seemed to stay in the plug.

I do not remember those. Before my time I suppose. Looks like loads of fun though.

Fancy 60s houses had them.  Even fancier if your rooftop antenna had a rotor with a nice long-range Winegard antenna.

My Dad had a channel changer & antenna rotor...Me.  Go up into the attic and turn the antenna until I say to see if we can get the (blacked out) Chicago Bears game in.

Didn't you say you're 27? You can't feel old until you're atleast 30.

As for the topic I think I'd also say Samsung, better than Sony anyway. VIZIO wasn't bad at all for a budget TV, that's what I use my mini consoles and PS3 mostly.
Also got a Magnavox CRT I like that I still use for my old consoles, especially ones that use lightguns since those don't work on new TVs.

I'm 27 but I feel older on the inside.

Vizio works well enough for me since it hits the check marks I'm looking for in a tv, and it's typically more affordable but still good enough. Also I do more shit on my pc anyway, so I have no real need for my TV to be cutting edge or whatever.

I agree, even the Samsung I had was not a high end one(the one I had you still needed a bunch of HDMI cables for example). I'm thinking about splurging next year though, depends on if the new consoles have anything to offer to make we want them in the first year.

Honestly I don't know if I'll get a new console. The X360 was the only xbox console I owned and I really loved it back then, but as a PC gamer Microsoft gives me nothing to look forward to. I commend Phil Spencer for helping the PC platform to be more mainstream but at the same time though Microsoft has no exclusives anymore, even Halo is now coming to PC. When it comes to the PS4 I bought that one for the exclusives, and realistically Persona 5 and Nier Automata are the only ones I really care about (NA is third party but the PC version is broken without mod support). Even Sony realized the PC market exists, them bringing their exclusives like Horizon Zero Dawn and I think also TLOU1 to it, that said though I imagine Sony will keep 1st party releases exclusive to their platform for at least 1 year before going to PC, to give some incentive to getting a PS4.

Even with Nintendo quite literally the only thing I play on the Switch is BotW and Fire Emblem 3H, I don't really care about much of their other games.

uh just whichever one I got right now?

Come on, you think Packard trusts The Chinese to make his TV?

Has Packard ever bought a TV? He probably just watches for people to throw their old ones out on the curb.

Fortunately, we had an antenna rotor. The antenna is actually still on the house. The rotor is put away. Antique at this point.

Some would say our rotor is an antique too.  😄

and why do you choose Samsung?

Fuck off Packard with some TCL bullshit.

I find the one that's larger than my previous one and just stack it on top of the old one

I've kept this practice up since I was 14, I know have a AutoBot for a TV

And it still needs restarts!

.....I was going to let this go after the first time you said it...but it's continued for a bit.....So....What are you talking about?

I got A Samsung, a Vizio and a Sony smart TV and I've nere had to "restart" any of them....I'm using quotes because I'm still unsure of what's happening that you think the tv needs to restart.

As far as the OP.....The Samsung is my favorite, but it's only because it's bigger and I can definitely tell the 4k difference in combination with my PSpro

8k isn't doing much for me....In store displays use content desined to specifically show it off, but there is no reason to have it for plain ol streaming that I can see\.....yet.

//> Sony best for the playstation and my grandparents got them and gave me a few , Sony is a fun tv some you can just plug in the tv cable but not connect it to the wall and still get a few satellite and digital channels depending on the specific sony TV./

Samsung panels are glorious.  I have an LG in my living room but I'm using a Samsung monitor for my computer.
I had a Vizio but it crapped out.

We had an LG and then went to a 4K LG, but it didn't have High Dynamic Range, which made the 4K useless. Mind you, I got it when they first came out pretty much and had no idea about HDR. I gave it to my mom, and that's when I bought the Samsung. I gave our son our other LG and he got pissed at a game and slung his remote through the screen, which is why he has some knock off brand TV now. But I decided to add a second TV in our bedroom, which I decided on another Samsung. I love them. Especially the first one we got, since the remote doesn't have to even be in the same room to work the TV. (No more pointing the remote at the TV).

The TV talk in this thread just reminded me of unintentionally pranking a customer.  VCRs had just come out & we had one.  I had recorded a portion of a December Bears game along with commercials.  Fast Forward to mid-July.  I found and played the tape to see what was on it, but got called back to the dept register.  As I watched, a customer was looking at the TVs and passed the one with the recording playing on it, just as a promo for the evening news came on and announced "up to 8 inches of snow expected overnight".  Surprised the customer didn't break his neck, the way he whipped his head around.

I did it intentionally at another store.  The security guard was tracking this girl that was grabbing handfuls of cassettes and hiding them on counters outside the dept.  He decided to use our video cam display to keep an eye on her while remaining out of view himself.  He didn't see it when I hit record.

She apparently got wise and left the store, and he came back to tell me.  While he was talking, I used a remote to playback the recording on the same monitor he'd been using.  He glances at the monitor and there's the girl at the tapes again.  "Son of a bitch, she's back", and he peeks around the corner - she's not there.  He looks at the monitor - she's there, he looks back at the counter - she's not there.   You can see it dawn on him what is going on and he does a slow turn and says "Very funny" in a voice that contradicts what he's saying.  Meanwhile the Dept Mgr is in tears, trying to stifle his laughter.
